049 tether car
Hey guys just a bit about my tether car
Started this hopefully to gain a bit more interest in tc's
Am far far from an expert in this field ... Or any other but thought you might like to see my tether car progress sort of like a build log although much has been covered before
So here goes ....

Re: 049 tether car
Engine is.049 standard crank Teflon reed no needle mod as yet but will be very shortly as vibration is an issue on this
Chassis cut and shaped from 2mm steel plate with mounting spot welded on
Am using tamiya "avante" model car wheels from some models I used to run as a kid powered by AA batteries these cars were actually quite quick free running although in Japan they used to race them on a track
Lots of different tyres silicone rubber and foam in different compounds so that was a help

Re: 049 tether car
First runs we're made with a tank I had to hand c/l homemade and resulted in tyres flying off !!! The pic above shows the body mounts being epoxied on have used the Parma slot car idea to mount body with pins through the side
Decided many moons ago to go with a pan car type body for aerodynamic reasons (had visions of it ending up bouncing all over the place) so built up the body 1/4 sides and sheeted with 1/32 " alt="" />

Then to work on the bridle used 7 strand 25lb wire made adjustable to toe in and out with adjuster out of ply " alt="" />

Re: 049 tether car
As this is a simple 1 wheel direct drive with no gearing decided to not bother with a fuel shutoff (as yet) but made a purpose built brassy fuel tank it's not beautiful but 30 mins later ended up with what I was after " alt="" />

Re: 049 tether car
So that's where I am !! So far
Also to note when running before the drive wheel was on outside of circle
This proved very difficult to get going as it would just donut on the spot!!! Guess as one wheel drive it wanted to push to the inside of the circle
The reason I ran it this way was because I thought when at speed the centrifugal force would keep the wheel down (outside wheel) and get more traction had a few attempts and this did work but had to really give it a good shove to get it going round out of about 15 attempts only two worked
That is why I decided to change and put the bridle on the other side so drive wheel is now on inside hopefully pushing out of circle preventing the donuts .. Mmmmm donuts and getting better results ... Well that's the thought as yet weather is too bad to try it out come on snow go away !!!!

Great Fun Phill
As for outside etc you're right that's how/why the Quaife ATB diff works.
If inside doesn't work I'd try different diameter tyres on each side.

Re: 049 tether car
Oh yeeeeaaah.
Somewhere in the corner of the garage is tucked away
One of only 6 RSTurbo convertibles to leave the Ford
Factory imagine a hairdressers car on Steriods.
I had Derek from DS Motorsport (THE RS200 man) build
A vorspung MENTAL box for it with an ATB.
That with the Toyo 888 proxies meant a lot of fun on the twisty
Bits, actually went round the track faster than my 4wd
Cossie.

Re: 049 tether car
Now we're talking had two mk4 convertibles both tuned high lift cams straight through scorpion xhaust. Lowered 60mm running yokes adjustables all round strut bar 16" cossie 5 spokes was only really good for track due to our c**p roads and speed humps but yeah am feelin ya bruv
Done a mk3 xr2 conversion to rst again all out gin and juice trouble was every time I gunned it off the mark it would crack the windscreen obliterated most things on the road though sold it to a young kid who crashed it about an hour later !!! What a waste !!!
Never saw an rst rag top though and I was in the rs club for years not a real one anyway !! Lucky you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gotta Love those Dagenham Dustbins
I know there are a number of converted convertibles but this one actually say's RS Turbo on the Log Book.
I used to bring in the 1.9 cvh from the States/could pick them up for 50 bucks from the breakers
or the most I paid was 350 for a 'gold seal' new one...
Burtons would charge 2.5 K for one over here.
The other thing was 'only' a saph but I'm sure you know Power Engineering? They did an RS 2.4 conversion, it was their ex demo car.
The thing got nicked before I had a chance to fit the Camera shy plates on it....

Re: 049 tether car
Hey dude no update really apart from was tweaking the car for max Rpm's and guess what the glue on tyre wasn't as good as I thought killed the tyre before I got a chance to run it
Good job I have some spares as looking on eBay last night couldn't find any of those little cars anymore someone must still have them but think I might need an abundant amount of tyres if I'm gonna keep running these wheel tyre combo

Re: 049 tether car
Was lying in bed awake (howling wind) outside not me u understand !!!
When I had the idea of making a tether motorbike and side car running mardave wheel tyres and small drive train adjustable 32dp gearing should be simple enough but am stuck with the body shell INEED A VAC FORMER !!!!!!
Now that would be different and spares widely available wheels and tyres in many many different compounds !!!! And only about £3 a pair !!!!
