What Killer Bee is it (1996 or 2002)

I've never seen a date there besides on the instruction sheet.

Most of the NIB engine I bought have dates. There is a thick cardboard paper sheet under the engine where they stamped the date. If the box come without that cardboard sheet, can't find the date.

Many times there is a date of the cardboard backing that supports the actual insert for the box.
At first glance that Killer Bee looks to be an .051 based upon the backplate color, but as mentioned it is in the wrong package with the .049 insert. Also, the needle valve is incorrect, and is a standard short needle valve stem.
I would check with the seller and ask him if there is a groove in the piston to confirm it is an .051 and have him take the backplate off to confirm the correct balanced crankshaft.
Best Regards, Matt

This is where you can find the date.

Yeah, most eBay sellers are not willing as you say. If it is original it is a good price for this one.

You will also find that there is no date in the boxes packaged by Estes. Usually if the engine looks like a late model and it has no date stamped on the cardboard, it is very likely estes.
Re: What Killer Bee is it (1996 or 2002)
Oh no not the dreaded 'when did Cox stop stamping the date'
Debate again...............
I bought one from Ronald Valentines collection which flies against conventional 'Wisdom'
I'll dig it out tomorrow.

PS
Not counting the NFFS medallion, as far as I can tell the Killer Bee was one of the last if not THE last of the Cox engines and was on sale mid 1995.

Killer Bee Piston...
Cox International wrote:Yes, that is the correct head.
Good luck with the piston as I have been looking for one for over a year now as well.
If it is the same as a Venom piston let me know, I may be able to help you out.
Cheers, Paul

exhaust port looks wide, So blackwidow crank, piston cylinder but backplate is from 0.051 killer bee (Estes era according to look of needle valve).
I don't think this one left cox factory like this. Someone is messing around with the parts and boxes.
