What Killer Bee is it (1996 or 2002)
I found this on ebay, the price is abit expensive without box, may be used one. But I can't resist my curiousity and bought it.

it arrived today.
Its backplate & needle. Needle looks like from old KB loosing it yellow plastic extension.
Lightened crankshaft with drilled crank pin.
The reed valve is not stainless steel. Cylinder has SPI.

Re: What Killer Bee is it (1996 or 2002)
The piston weight 3.2 gram.
The cylinder have 2 ports with 1 booster port on each one.
the cylinder do not have tapered grind so the piston can pass through.
This last fact make me confused. this KB has all features of 1996 KB but no tapered grind is 2002 KB features. How to decide ??? Also another question is the dot at the middle of upper surface of piston???

The "pip" at the top of the piston is just leftover from the milling process. Most pistons have that.
Other than that I am not well versed on the KB particulars.

I would say that you have an engine that was assembled from various parts.
It has the "real" KB crank but a #325 head and what looks to be a non-KB piston.
The cylinder seems to be the correct one, as well as the backplate. The needle is missing the stem but we have those in stock.

what makes that "nipple" (what we call it in my machining class) is that the lathe bit was not centered completely, so when you go to "face" off a part and the bit is not centered, you will always get that little "nipple"

Thank for the info you guys provided. I found correct needle with yellow tube extension among my old things and replaced it. So according to Bernie, I nee dto get correct head and piston. I know piston have to be lightened and tapered grind. But what is the correct head looks like? thanks

You need a 1702 high compression head.

I have NOS high compression head. Is this the correct one for KB?

Yes, that is the correct head.
Good luck with the piston as I have been looking for one for over a year now as well.

Re: What Killer Bee is it (1996 or 2002)
I almost want to say you have a "transition bee". A transition bee is an engine that was produced in the exact beginning when Estes took over operation. Perhaps there was leftover stock of all the parts except for piston/cylinder assemblies. After looking into the extra costs of having different lightened tapered pistons for only that one engine, they made it so those pistons would be interchangeable with all the other .049 engines as well. So for transition engines, you will sometimes see Black Widows that use the correct parts but maybe a tank or crankcase or maybe the whole engine would be "silver".
Re: What Killer Bee is it (1996 or 2002)
Yup, I told that it is in expensive side but I can't resist to bid it. Because of curiosity, how the KB crank looks like in person (I never had one).
Yes transistion Bee theory might right. BTW can I use piston from old TD0.049 for this?

I would leave it like it is.

Re: What Killer Bee is it (1996 or 2002)
Bernie, is your KB crank made in USA or where?
I would say I proud to own made in USA things, and love to buy them.
but made in ----- things, I really hate them, what ever their performance is (I can't help, but its my personal feeling).

I'll replace the head and needle extension. For piston, cylinder, I'll leave it like that. One extra number for my collection "Killer Bee in Transition"

Our KB cranks are made in the USA and are identical to OEM product as they were made to the OEM Cox drawings.

How it looks like after replacing with correct head & needle straw.
All 1996 KB parts except piston!!! "Transition Killer BEE"

Nice 051 KB you have. I found Estete 051 KB up for bid in ebay now but it is in 049 box. So I feel something not right to bid

How do you think?

Re: What Killer Bee is it (1996 or 2002)
Ya, I seen that one... not sure what that is. The needle valve is wrong and not even sure if it's a 049 or 051. 049 should have a black backplate, both should have the needle valve you put on yours.
Re: What Killer Bee is it (1996 or 2002)
The needle valve looks like from Estete era. I check with cox museum website. The red back plate is for 0.051. But the box said 0.049. May be Estete mixed up everythings.

I going to ask the seller what the date in the box. Usually there will be date stamped underneath the paper supporting engine.
