details details don't bother me with details...
No, not a line from one of the best gangster movies.....
My loverly new 94 Texaco has a prop hub spacer fitted, for those 7+8 inch props and is metal not plastic.
I've not seen one before either in the flesh, my (now Rons) 92ish one didn't have one,
neither do any of the usual on line photos.
Was it only a 1994 thing?
If you have a 'nib' take a look.

Had I'd seen it I would have snatched it! Then we wouldn't even be having this discussion.
In the first series of Texaco engines it was probably recognized as being a problem. In the later series it was more than likely corrected. That's my guess anyway.

The ironic thing Ron is that the hex drive prop drivers all seem to have the facility for them but I've not
seen a spacer before.
Bernie lists a placcy version but....

I thought it was a Texaco only thing to allow the larger prop to fit properly. I have a metal spacer. If I remember I'll take a pic.

I may be able to narrow it down, it came with a box I bought on ebay.

If not on the inlay card, don't forget to look at the 'Litho in USA' date on the instruction leaflet.

Yeah, that's a new one. Was it ever modified Ian?

No. Both engines are new in box - never used.

If I remember correctly the Texaco was originally made with the non-friction starter spring, the later one may have been made near the end.
The spacer in question is removable. I think my Texaco came with the spacer and a longer prop screw in a bag. Here are some pics of the spacer:

Well if these are all unmolested and we chuck Ron's rose coloured one in as well I think we have perhaps the best example of Cox chucking whatever was to hand at any given time to package them up.

Oh No I've been thinking again.
Duck and cover....
I remember we established sometime ago that the pre 92's came with a standard head so I think Ian's '91' above must be later.

I believe your correct.
Re: details details don't bother me with details...
I have a very late one (no date on anything but purchased with a group of very late Estes engines from a LHS owner) and it not only has the zero drag drive heavy drive plate but also a spring. The instructions say it has two prop screws but only a standard size screw is in the box. The longer screw could have been a casualty of time.

Sorry it was one my old Iphone 3 but you get the idea.
It's now taken up residence in Oklahoma

The most extreme example I have experienced of their "chucking" was when I bought a Black Widow at my LHS that had a complete .09 reset tool in the back with the wrenches!

There also appears to be a variation in the backplate used - mine are black, others are grey.

Mine had/has an .09 wrench in it. I never thought much about it until this thread. Was somebody at Estes just trying to avoid a trip to the dumpster, shipping, storage or something like that? Who knows?
A Black Widow I got in the same lot was missing the venturi O ring and the plastic piece that engages the prop on the cam activated spring starter. The engine had never been run and probably never opened or fondled until I got my grubby hands on it.
Since I plan on running mine and open the engines to check everything out before running them it is not a deal to me. Still interesting though.

Kinda scary. Estes in a rush mode, or so tired of the sale losses that they just packed and tossed stuff on the shelves.
"But this is a 09 tool?,,whatever,, stick it in there".
