If you get over that way sometime, I think it'd be cool to see some photos of those places, with your own take on them.

Re: World War II Airbases in England & Elsewhere
Several of our WWII bases still exist, though somewhat camouflaged. When you fly into a non-towered, small-town airport with giant old runways, you just KNOW there had to be some historical goings-on there at one time. In some cases, there was a lot that happened even after the military turned them back to civilian use.
Sturgis, Kentucky was an Army Air Force base for, among other things, training glider pilots in the WACO troop gliders so famous for their combat actions on D Day.
I was fortunate to attend a Formula I race at Sturgis in 1977, and witnessed the last completed race by Bill Falck in his legendary "Rivets". He died later that year in what I've read was a stall-spin accident during an Reno-Style "air-start", rather than the "Race Horse-Style" ground-launch commonly used by the Formula I racers.
While at the Sturgis Race, watching Mr. Falck work on his racer in one of the T hangars, I had only a small Kodak 110 camera, and didn't think it'd take good enough photos to bother with. I've got SERIOUS regrets about that now.
Seymour, Indiana was another base, long-rumored to have many WWII aircraft buried around it's perimeter. This has been researched, with only some articles recovered...but no full-size aircraft.
