Odd looking Tee Dee crankcase

Odd looking Tee Dee crankcase
I have an odd one here. The Tee Dee .049 on the Chopper was acting up the other day. It doesn't run all that fast for a Tee Dee, but it was always a steady and dependable workhorse. This past Saturday it was cutting off and being generally uncooperative. Probably something in the fuel feed, but the compression seemed low compared to the .051 on the Streak, and it's got a lot of runs on it, so I decided to tear it down and take a look.
I also had another old Tee Dee in the box that I've never used or opened up and I thought I would use the better one or swap and combine the best parts. The one in the box turned out to be an .051, which was a surprise; no ring on the piston, so I assumed it was an .049. But it had a short skirted Killer Bee .051 SPI new looking piston in it. anyway while cleaning it, I noticed this:
See the raised ridge on the bottom of the crankcase. It looks like something weird happened and the rod took a swipe at the case. Maybe hydro-lock. I can't see any evidence on the inside. Has anyone ever seen a case with this on it? Any chance it's normal?

What's the inside of the case look like? Just guessing it looks like it threw a crankpin or a rod broke and rolled it around inside.

Re: Odd looking Tee Dee crankcase
I know exactly what happened because it's happened to me. The crankcase collapsed due to hitting the crankshaft off of the prop driver.

Re: Odd looking Tee Dee crankcase
I'll give it a shot Rusty.
The relief in the case for the crank/rod end was
machined with a dull cutter. Maybe causing the
case to bulge a bit from the force applied.
The case is somewhat thin there.
That's all I got.

I can't see any evidence of any insult on the inside.lousyflyer wrote:What's the inside of the case look like? Just guessing it looks like it threw a crankpin or a rod broke and rolled it around inside.
Well dang, Jetpack, I had to resist the urge to say Welcome to CEF after I saw your 172 posts. That explains it, so there ain't a straight line in it anymore thanks. And welcome back.jetpack wrote:I know exactly what happened because it's happened to me. The crankcase collapsed due to hitting the crankshaft off of the prop driver.

You posted while i was writing. Okay, Bob, I'll see how the spin test feels. If that's the case, someone else has probably seen it. I'll ask over at RCU.dckrsn wrote:I'll give it a shot Rusty.

Re: Odd looking Tee Dee crankcase
Thanks, Rusty! Yep, I took a recess with my other hobbies for awhile plus a new job so I've been busy. I've missed this place
If the crankpin clears with the backplate on you should still be okay. Check to see if the rod bottom clears also with it on the crank. Mine still works okay, but never got to find out how it ran before though...
Hi again to everyone!

Re: Odd looking Tee Dee crankcase
That's quite a bit of metal distortion. I would not think the crankcase is useable.
