Re: Wanted crankshaft for Tee Dee .020
This will be a difficult item to find. I searched for the better part of a year to find one. It was eventually found on eBay and at a great cost. I wish I had better news for you.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: Wanted crankshaft for Tee Dee .020
As Jason said, the .020 TeeDee cranks are pretty rare.
All I can say is, be patient and wait. It'll come eventually.
I picked up a complete bottom end for $40 (shipped) from Bernie
at http://coxengines.ca/ a couple of months ago, but that was
a one-off deal.
Keep an eye out on ebay, here, and around the web. They're
out there, and asking about, is a good start.
Oh and, WELCOME TO THE FORUM JIM!

Re: Wanted crankshaft for Tee Dee .020
Jim,
Consider a used engine. The market currently is on a down swing and I have seen things go pretty cheap. That way you have your crank and spare parts.
Welcome to the forum.

Re: Wanted crankshaft for Tee Dee .020
Dan Sitter has an ebay store and often has Tee Dee parts available for 020s & 010s. Not sure I've ever seen a shaft, but he has crankcases etc. Not sure if he's currently on. He tends to change his username regularly. Sometimes California-dan, sometimes California-dream, and at one point Sadieengines. Could be worth following him up.

I will try to find him. I have a search saved on ebay. That should help. Thanks for the help. Jim

Re: Wanted crankshaft for Tee Dee .020
About 6-8 months ago Dan had TD .020 crankshafts on a BIN acution. I bought the last one - or so I thought. I get a PM through eBay from Dan that he could not fulfill my order as he did not have any more. He refunded my purchase and I eventually found one on eBay that was NIP.

Or parts lots that have a bottom end of an engine. Every now and then parts lots show up on eBay. Some hidden gems if you know what you are looking for.
I have yet to stumble on the "coffee can" full of Cox parts engines at a swap meet.
Here is my ordeal on looking for a TD .020 crank that started in 2012.

I also sent you a PM.

Re: Wanted crankshaft for Tee Dee .020
california-dream is Dans handle at the moment he is selling striped down engines and parting out them to eek out max bucks its a shame they go this way just for the dollar but he does have Cox parts and its just a matter of time before he has some TD cranks for sale. He will part out portions of a engine hold the rest of the carcass back for 2 or three months then toss out some more crumbs for the folks till the engine is no more.

Many of these engines were ravished up and hoarded by the free flight crowd. I would think that a search for free flight clubs may just turn up something. Ken

Re: Wanted crankshaft for Tee Dee .020
If we were to entertain the thought of manufacturing 020 cranks, TD or PW or both? And, what would be a price-point for buyers to actually by the things?
Re: Wanted crankshaft for Tee Dee .020
I bought a NIP TD .020 crank in back in March for $55 on ePay.
The better question is how many TD .020 engines are out there in need of crankshafts? Mid to upper $20's might catch some sales to resurect an engine.
Pee wees are in need of backplates most of the time. The crankshafts do break easy on these though.

Re: Wanted crankshaft for Tee Dee .020
More folks have a few Pee Wee's on hand most would rob the piston / cylinder and glow plug off the engine to put on a retro lower end kit for a TD .020.
Cheaper could be a simple Medallion retro kit less parts to produce.
Cheaper still would be a Pee Wee with a retro kit consisting of a rear aluminum assembly for a throttle carb body back plate with the same footprint for the mounting screws of the fuel tanks back plate. The existing needle would be used / the tank and back plate would not.
I took a TD backplate the idea is to butcher the Pee Wee aluminum fuel tank to put in between the backplate cut out to allow the intake tube to pass thru cut the tube down and mod for a needle body and venturi off a TD.
Imagine this manufactured all aluminum with a throttle barrel carb integrated rear induction reed with same footprint as the fuel tank back plate to retrofit the engine. Many would mod there Pee Wee's there are soooo many out there.
Second pic is a typical space hopper idea less the throttled carb.

TD .020 crankshaft
Jim,
Think you'll really enjoy this forum.... You're looking for something extremely rare in the TD/020 crank. I got a new in the pack one off Freebay about 5 years ago for $5.00 on a BIN about 3 minutes after it was posted! Don't think I've seen another since. It went into a TD that I got from a free flight guy who used it as a lawn dart.
About 5 years ago a guy in the Atlanta area got the remainder of the Cox R & D department inventory and even he didn't have any TD .020 cranks. I know because I spent a great deal of time looking for one.
I did pick up a LH TD .020 crank at the Perry , GA swap meet 3 years ago from an old time CL guy. He said Cox only made 50 and of course I paid too much for it..
Have a good time in the forum and the hobby...
Steve.....

Re: Wanted crankshaft for Tee Dee .020
Is there a consensus that TD 020 cranks would sell at, say $14.95?
Re: Wanted crankshaft for Tee Dee .020
That price is reasonable for owners who have this engine and if not to have an immediate need for a crank may opt. to buy a spare to have on hand just in case. Low risk limited run within reason as I would imagine units will be sold slowly to depletion over the course of some years. Perhaps 100 -150 units tops. I own 6 TD .020's 2 in use 4 spares for future projects.
Another option to want a spare is to have one to trick it out for more rpm.

Re: Wanted crankshaft for Tee Dee .020
I would imagine / guess there are about (safe est.) 2500 - 3500 engines still in running condition and about 30% in use or on a plane. If there is a known total production number floating around would help. Knowing there is a spare crank available could have most being more brave to use them in the air again.
You could take all TD .020 sells related to parts Bernie to extrapolate activity least on your end. Perhaps Matt will collaborate on his end then add a percentage on public sales of parts and on ebay.
World wide counts - it is difficult to tell one thing is for sure these smaller TD engines have always been looked after by most. Many have prompted themselves to try the engine on a plane the enticement to do so is human nature.
