The exhaust was redirected through the gearbox. That way, no additional lubrication was needed. You opened a metal flap to let the exhaust straight out for starting. Then you closed it to direct exhaust through the gearbox.

I am so stupid. I have looked at the gallery of altidsulten and now I know this engine. I have seen a vid on you tube of this cool engine a couple of weeks ago. Really nice rare engine.

Not a hot contender but I brought it here in the hope of doing a holiday build, now looks like I'll just go rubber power in it ah well enjoy the shiny pee wee.

I have several of Ronald's diesel conversions -they are exceptional examples of workmanship. The one I have pictured is the Schnuerle ported version, the exhaust slot is only on one side.
