I have a feeling that they were just stashed away since the 1980s but many people actually think they were recently made new as the plastic shows no yellowing or aging at all and they seem to work properly. The price is not that bad for a new unit. Would be neat to take it out to the field when you go flying to listen to the radio or a tape for that real old time feel.

8 tracks were the new thing when I was a teenager, most cars only had AM radios so you hung an 8 track under the dash.
I liked the stereo, it was great but most tapes got eaten by the player. You would pull the cartridge and the tape would stay in the player ooooppppssss.
Lead Zep 1 was my first tape, we rocked. Also I've had to buy the same music over and over in the latest format, album, 8 track, cassette, CD and now digital.
What a rip. And the Labels are worried about you copying a a song.

I usually buy all my music in vinyl, even the new album releases as they usually always come out in vinyl. I use CDs but not very much. I try to stay away from used cassettes especially from the thrift store as I keep getting ruined ones that someone placed too close to a magnet or the adhesive that holds the iron oxide to the plastic tape has gotten sticky and binds the tape on the head. Most of my cassettes are ones that I recorded myself. I also hoard 8-tracks, I listen to them quite often. With a good well adjusted player and a good condition tape that has been serviced (replaced the foil splice, and replace the pressure pads if needed), they can sound really good. They are great for when you are cleaning up an engine and you don't want to touch CDs or records with your dirty, oily hands. I usually pay 25¢ to $5 for a nice used vinyl record and between 10¢ and $2 for just about any 8-track, NOS sealed or used. Cassettes are usually found for 50¢ to $1 but I those usually have more problems, even one that look perfect. New vinyl pressings usually costs $20-$50 if not more depending on what it really is. Besides engines, my other hobby is 8-tracks, vinyl and cassettes.

Vinyl has the best fidelity by far, tape is not bad. CDs sound like crap and digital is good for ear buds.
