USPS Track and Confirm

USPS Track and Confirm
Just a heads up. If you choose NOT to have delivery confirmation and or a tracking number when shipping a box, Save your receipt!!. That long number on the receipt can be used to track your package if it goes missing. All packages are issued a hidden tracking number within that receipt. Something USPS doesn't want you to know. They can look it up,,make them look it up.
Also,,keep the USPS honest. I recently shipped for a friend a very expensive drag racing manifold back east to have some work done on it. A overnight ship with all the bells, whistles, track numbers, Ins, ect. The package missed that time period and was late. consequently, the manifold was unable to be worked on back east and shipped right back and so it became a 4-5 day wait to be fixed as opposed to being sent right back. Took the receipt in to USPS and told them it missed the time frame. They did some digging and confirmed that it did indeed miss and they issued a full refund on the overnight shipping and for the prepay for return shipping. It is a guaranteed shipping when you pay for it, make sure they keep there end of the bargain.

Re: USPS Track and Confirm
I didn't know that. I paid 75 cents to get a tracking number on the traveling Prop.

When you pay for that track number, it basically gives you the ability to track it "online".
You can't track it with the receipt number, because it is a different number batch,,and of course you didn't pay for it.

Re: USPS Track and Confirm
I can honestly say that a private enterprise is more "consumer friendly" than dealing with the government and it's various agencies. Both make mistakes but which is more accountable?
Which would you rather have? Public or private? I believe there is place for both.
(I suppose this could be considered a political issue)

Re: USPS Track and Confirm
Another heads up: If you receive anything thru the USPS that has obviously been opened by them, I would take it to a PO before opening it. This to expedite a claim/complaint.
Twice in recent years I've had packages opened by the USPS (part of the homeland security theater we now endure) and both times items were missing. (One from that terrorist haven Canada...)
The PO includes a standard form letter, but there is nothing ('Inspected by #33') that identifies the responsible party. Which I suspect is deliberate.

Re: USPS Track and Confirm
This has always confused me. I say "No" when they ask if I want it, but they put a tracking # on the receipt (like you said) anyway, which works when entered into their site.

Here is a link to print postage at a discount using Paypal. Tracking is free. For example: Up to 3 oz or 1 Cox engine for $1.64 total.

Cool. I was wondering if you could do this with PayPal. You need to be logged in to get to the link.
