USPS shocker Empty USPS shocker

Firstly this ain't a go at them but just a few observations based on my recent 'experience' so you perhaps guys may save yourselves the grief associated with lost packages.

As you know the TD tach race was set for 09th Nov.
I sent my 6 engines to Ron on the 30th of October. Mindful that they usually take 4 to 7 days I paid a large premium
to get them to Tuttle Guaranteed within 5 days using Royal Mails Airsure 5 day tracked service.
I awoke on the 01st to find they were now in New York........
8 days to the tach race so far so good.
Well, as most of you know they didn't show and the tach race was pushed back a further 3 weeks.
Fast forward to the 22nd, they still hadn't arrived and I started to try to trace their whereabouts.
A quick check on the Royal Mail site showed each of the tracked steps form my Post Office counter to the receiving
depot in New York and a note advising all further tracking to be done via USPS.
I phoned USPS.
Lets not get too bogged down in their voice 'recognition' system, sufficed to say it doesn't work and you have to
go round the houses for about 10 mins before a real person appears on the line.
Now, coming from a country where until 15 years ago Customer Service was completely alien few things surprise me,
but the 'Gentleman' I spoke to was utterly uninterested. He told me the parcel was non trackable and there was nothing
he could do. He got a little flustered when I told him I was looking at the USPS site which told me it was sat (allegedly)
in New York on their tracking section. He then agreed it was in New York but didn't know why or when It might not be
or when or if it might proceed further.
On the 24th ie the daY after Royal Mail consider it officially lost, USPS tracking (remember this it not a trackable
parcel doh) site says it's been sent to Cleveland, 25th arrived in Cleveland, 26th sent and received in Oklahoma city
27th Received by Tuttle Sorting depot and Thankfully delivered at 1500 that afternoon.
Now I know Rowland Hill was English so I guess we should have a good Mail System but USPS have had 170 years
to catch up.
Anyway observations and comments over I think what I'm saying is if you care for something and you're sending it
through the mail make sure it's well insured and don't fret if it doesn't appear when it should. If you're sending stuff
abroad (as long as it's not Italy or Nigeria) and it doesn't arrive quickly it's probably your end the problems have
occurred.
If receiving stuff don't hassle the vendor, if it's Ebay cut him some slack particularly if he's got good feed back.
Again look above, the most expensive service Royal mail offer and your guys took 26 days to get it 1500 miles.
lol!

Forgot to Add that Ron went to his Post Office on the 21st and was told the tracking Number wasn't a tracking number........
Just in case some of you are thinking "yeah yeah" here's what remains on the usps site under the trackable
parcel that wasn't a trackable parcel with the number that wasn't the tracking number.

Not that I am a big fan of the USPS. BUT.... your package arrived in NYC just as the worst of Hurrican Sandy brought the entire region to it's knees. Shame the drone on the phone was so braindead. here is what may have happend that he might not have seen the tracking number

I suspect (cuz I was part of a team that tested the system for Department of Defense)) that your package might have had additional delay by being flagged as part of the percent for extra scanning.

Since 9/11 there is no way for USPS to inspect 100% of all international packages. The have a percent per day protocol that diverts packages to a more thorough scan and investigation, sort. Because of security, when a package is in that Que the computer tracking system results are blocked to typical lookup until the parcel clears back into normal sort que

Yep I get all that Fred but the flight made it cos the Storm
Was abating and even though the package looks as though
It's been used for touch Football it wasn't
Opened so the 9/11 excuse/reason/pretext doesn't fly.
Anyway this wasn't meant as a debate merely an example
Of how badly wrong things can go and and thereby informing
You guys what steps are best taken to avoid the same or
Even illustrating why your bits and pieces may sometimes take
A lot longer.
Very Happy

The problem is it spent a stupid amount of time in the "que"

I agree Sandy played a part, but when someone pays big money for something to arrive on a certain date then it should be processed in a timely manner. If not then why bother paying for extra services?

This is probably not the norm, but it seems fishy that the same thing happened last year with a package from GB. It actually was lost for a longer period of time.

If experience counts my postal exchages with Paul Gibeault in Alberta, Canada have experienced extended delays. Blame it on the weather, 9/11 trauma or what ever you wish something is terribly amiss.

I must live at the lucky end of the mail chute. Everything i order from Cox Int. arrives within 4-5 days. I'm as far East as you can get from California and my stuff from NV Engines, and back and forth to Mudhen in San Diego takes 2-3 days. It's pretty much what I expect and get, but now that I've bragged on it I'm sure my mail service will go straight to hell. We did have a Canadian customs holdup when the Traveling Prop was missing for a month on the way to MicrofliteMatthew here in Columbia.

Rusty:

I've had a similar good experience with items from Bernie (Cox International) at (not in) Wink Williams Lake, BC, Canada. (get the pun?) If not I can expalin it to you.

It's items from and to Paul G. that delayed shipping problems have been experienced. From what he tells me Paul apparently has had problems within international shipments. i.e. a Veco engine "lost" for five months in the postal system.

Fortunatly I have a LOT more good stories than bad with DHL, FedEx, UPS, and USPS. I own a smart car and in 2008 I ordered quite a lot of kit n bits for it from various crafty Brits. Each package was painless, VAT was reasonable, and post was about right on at 5 to 9 days.

Ordering stuff from Hobby King in HongKong has it's intrigue but so far I am free from the grief many report on RCG.

EVERY thing from Xenalook and Bernie is very fast, normally 3~4 days to cen Texas but my #055 Red Xtreme got here in 48 hours, the Blue Bullet took 3 days. The package from Ron Cribbs was sent from San Antoino to Lampasas, 74 miles and took a full 8 day week....go figure

LOL John,

Keep in mind USPS is very slow to update their tracking. I have had things show up at my door, when their website says "Electronic shipping info received"

JB:

I'm not so sure that if you became familer with Chicago that you would LIKE Chicago.

Rumor has it that the Illinois state motto has been changed from "Land of Lincoln" to "Where Governors Make License Plates".

If that warrants further explanation, I'd be pleased to advise you. Laughing
