i love my lhs
i love my local hobby store, i got 3 cox engines at good prices and a steal on a 40 size nitro trainer
i got 2 babe bee's, and a mint condition COX golden bee for $30
the trainer was $125 and is a Topflite Sierra with a ASP 46a engine, it came with a flight box, brand new electric starter, brand new monokote iron, old Futaba Conquest radio, with all the electronics in the plane, they all work, and best of all.... I did not need to balance the plane as it was already balanced
pics to come later

You are lucky.
My lhs kicked me out as I asked for cox parts/ fuel / models. He said you won't get anything for this end-of-life hobby. Fortunately not everyone has this opinion.

That's a pretty short sighted comment from your LHS. I can understand him not stocking items due to lack of public interest but, to tell a potential customer his passion is a waste of time is just plain rude. If you have options I would take your business elsewhere. There are plenty of online resources and cheaper too.
End of life hobby.......Man I would have smacked him in the mouth!

You are right! He is an odd fish. You must see, I have bought my cox powered Kyosho car there. And as a good customer my first walk after years of abstinence (in running rc cars) was to his shop.
Customer satisfaction seems to be a foreign word for him. But not only for him, it describes the mentality of a wide range of service providers here in germany. I guess you will find this specific type of seller only in germany (and this is the reason why germany is called a service wasteland).

It sucks when employees act as if they don't understand where their paychecks come from, but a shop owner... I just don't get it. I've encountered arrogance from shop owners even back in the good ol days, especially from electric train guys. Don't know what their problem is. Not enough sunlight, maybe.

they do, and its odd
i saw a tv show about model train clubs and they actually have everything planned out, and if one of the cars de-rail, they have to do a "investigation" on what happened before they are allowed to put the car back on the track
some of there stuff is cool because of the level of detail, but man. I am glad i am more interested in model airplanes and miniature internal combustion engines

Re: i love my lhs
Oh boy, don't get me started on how rude my LHS (Hub Hobby) is! All the people who work there are VERY rude. You'll stand at the counter where they have all the engines displayed waiting to see one while the guy talks on his phone and turns his back to you right when you look at him right before I could ask to see an engine. LOL, they also wouldn't sell me a wood prop once because when the guy ringing me up asked if I had a prop balancer and I said no, he said I would get hurt as it would fly apart and refused to sell it to me. There are other stories for another time.
Hub is alright when it comes to all the stuff they have in the store, its just the people working there that are so rude!
The one hobby shop that actually used to buy used engines, models and supplies closed up about a year ago. I used to get Cox stuff from them all the time.

Train enthusiasts are all about detail.
One nice thing about these guys is that they spend money in hobby shops, and that helps to keep hobby shops open.

Re: i love my lhs
We are lucky to have a great hobby shop in Naples, FL. It is Family Hobby Center. The owner used to be big into 1/2A stuff and knows I still am so he keeps an eye out and saves everything he can for me. He is a second generation owner of the family business and definitely knows how to keep us coming back. If you are ever in Naples stop in and give them a look. Better yet, call me and we will go together.

In Orlando florida, Youcan go to a place called 'graves rc hobbies." I don;t knw for certain if they have 1/2a or not, but I am preety sure they have 1/2a fuel and they have enough on consignment you never know what they have in there. They are a great place because they have knowledgable and kind people who actuly want to help. They also have an online store www(DOT)gravesrc(DOT)com

Re: i love my lhs
My hobby shops are worthless when it comes to anything 1/2a. (HobbyTownUSA) The only thing they carry related is some small fuel tubing. A guy sold me some fuel that he was sure had castor in it. I got home, looked it up, and found out it had zero castor content. The refused to refund my money. When you ask about Cox stuff, they take you to the RTF Nine Eagles clones. Smallest engine they carry is a .15.
Yeah, the RR guys can be strange. I have met some nicer people though. I have some HO scale stuff that I get parts for from a little family owned shop.

Re: i love my lhs
There was (and might still be) a hobby shop in Greenville SC that was in the back of a bicycle shop. I think the place was called the Great Escape or something to that effect. If you didn't know the hobby shop was there, you could have passed it without knowing. All you could see from the front was bikes.

Or depending on the type of synthetic in the mix(maybe Klotz), pour some castor oil in it to make it 50/50 synth/castor.happydad wrote:MFD: look at the bright side. at least you have a good supply of engine soaking fluid if nothing else. just remember to change it often. LOL.

I couldn't find any fuel that would tell you the percentages. That's why I still have 3 quarts of Blue Power sitting, doing nothing.
