I found a bit of neon blue tubing, and love it. Any kind of tubing will work.

Re: Display prop spacer
I use 1/4 " automotive fuel hose, cut into 3/8" lengths. It compresses nicely when screw is tightened and diameter will expand nicely to match drive plate and spinner diameters. See my Black Widow in this months engine poll. It is number 10, the one on the miniature tool box.

Re: Display prop spacer
I use small nylon spacers sold at most hardware stores, they dye easy if want them in color.
Re: Display prop spacer
I use the same one's as Mark. Cheap and easy to find.

Them's sure purdy lads but I make prop spacers of fuel tubing otherwise too short to be used for it's intended purpose.
Doesn't everyone have a batch of those in the bottom of their flight box?

This is for aesthetic appeal in a display case, not functioning to center a prop with a reamed drive hole.SuperDave wrote:Them's sure purdy lads but I make prop spacers of fuel tubing otherwise too short to be used for it's intended purpose.

Rusty:
Oh I know it's the "purdy" thing but since most of my horde of Cox engines spend their time in a closed drawer I'm not terribly concerned.
Only my TD "jewel case" .049 is the exception having the Santa Ana installed fuel tubing prop spacer still in place. It sits directly below my computer monitor.

Ah, so you do have a shiny one. Well if you ever feel the need to have it defiled, keep me in mind, I'd love to make it hot and oily.SuperDave wrote:Rusty:

Re: Display prop spacer
My wife measured the prop hub and it was 1/4". I bought some spacers last night, half of them turned out to be 3/16", which doesn't work. I'll let you know how the 1/4" ones work, as I found out I had a mixed selection today when I returned them for a different size.
Re: Display prop spacer
Mark, I really like your Nylon Spacers idea (and your RR1's!). I think I would like to try them but would prefer to use the black one you show.
Can you describe how you dye them?

Where do you get these Spacers from? What Size would I need for a .010 engine? Thanx!

Any hardware store will have those in the nut and bolt section. Home Depot, Lowes, etc. Just measure the diameter of your prop drive plate or spinner for the size. I use a short section of fuel hose because I don't really like the bulk that the spacer adds to the front of the engine.

Re: Display prop spacer
It's pretty easy to dye 'em, use appx. 1/2 teaspoon of RIT dye (powder) and appx. 8 oz. of water. Heat in a really small pan, add some nylon bellcranks and horns while you're at it. Heat to near boil then turn down heat, should take 4-8 minutes, it's really a trial and error thing if you're doing colors, black is back, just keep it in tell its black. I'm not sure how much you'd need for liquid dye, i don't think it as strong, maybe start with 1 teaspoon and add as needed?
