Clearing Dry Brush with Bottle Rockets !!!!
So, my landlord asks me if I heard the Firetruck Sirens Wednesday. "No", says I. "I was busy dieing of heat stroke at our 4th of July Gun Day."
Seems some kids were launching bottle rockets and managed to to start a fire that cleared the dry brush from a vacant (luckily) lot in the subdivision across the valley. We've had a burn ban going for the past two weeks, and as much as I enjoy launching flaming projectiles, holding off on the fireworks 'till we get some rain would seem to be a good idea!
Initiating a "Skunk Scramble", the 2m B.O.T. was immediately dispatched on a surveillance mission, returning like a faithful Labrador Retriever with this footage.

Some folks never learn. I think an appropriate penalty would be to fine them the cost of the fire run plus expenses plus reseeding cost.
Our county fire crew has been making three to four fire runs a day; some smaller; some requiring outside county support and Forest Service personnel with dozers.

There is talk of doing that exact thing in this area, charging folks for doing something obviously stupid if there is a call out for rescue or law enforcement, or any type of outside services. As an example, people who ski out into the no ski zones on the skiing areas and they have to be rescued, items like that. The fine lines are still being drawn, but they are saying sometime next year there will be rulings and laws, ect.

Re: Clearing Dry Brush with Bottle Rockets !!!!
Thanks! It IS a lot of fun!
I very nearly lost the 2m B.O.T. on this trip! I was using my "Flip" Video camera which is a lot heavier than the Key Fob version. Since it was so hot, I figured the B.O.T. would climb like a anvil, and so loaded a full ounce of fuel behind the .051. The initial climb was as anemic as I'd expected, but at some point, I hooked into a late-day boomer, and the B.O.T. went up like a rocket! I don't have a throttle, and the thing was a speck by the time the Tee Dee finished it's fuel. The B.O.T. won't spin, and I have to be real careful racking it around while packing a camera.
I was finally able to spiral it back down without folding it's skinny wings, AND got some great high altitude footage...wish I'd had my recording altimeter on board, 'cause I think the B.O.T. must have cleared a couple thousand feet!

As a friend of mine used to say "She's up a fair depth"! at least 2,000 in my opinion, I REALLY look forward to seeing the video!
