Why allow guest to post?
Makes no sense and is an opening for trolls! If somebody wants to say something, they should have to register.

Re: Why allow guest to post?
I figured that too. Guests can only post in the Cox Discussions and none of the others. The reason I let them, is if they have a quick question like "My Black Widow Won't Start" and so on. If there starts to be issues, I'll think about removing them from the discussions and making a "open to guests" section or something. Guests cant post urls or email addresses (without breaking them up). There is more information here on it.
Re: Why allow guest to post?
OK, I just don't think I have ever encountered it on a forum of this nature.

Re: Why allow guest to post?
Well, I recently had thoughts about changing it to members only. I originally had it open to guests when the forum was new just to make it easier for people coming to see what it is and so on. If anything, I would still have a guest area since some people may not be collectors or enthusiasts. They just might be someone trying to start a plane they had when they were little.
Re: Why allow guest to post?
Whatever... It is your forum, your rules.
I just don't think it is asking a lot for people to register...

I think the days are numbered for the cox discussions guests. I'll really think about dropping the guest thing all together. You are right, you very rarely do see forums similar to this with guest posting.
Re: Why allow guest to post?
I concurr with cz 100%. Guests may "lurk" but not post.
Letting guests post and dilute this forum will only destroy what many of us have helped build here. There's something about anominity that brings out the worst in people.

Yes we have enough "it won't start" threads but i think it is nice to have it open to people who are having problems with emails so cannot make an account yet.
But really at the end of the day it's your call Jacob.
Re: Why allow guest to post?
I think by the fact they are able to post, some don't realize they can. They probably come here from google search with no clue as to what is going on and since they can post, see no reason to register.
It also lessens the credibility.... Look at how suspicious some were of Mud Hen's post because he wasn't registered. I suspect that had he/she been "forced" to register, it would have happened initially.

Re: Why allow guest to post?
Some of the most vicious and ignorant newspaper "letter to the editor" submissions are from people who hide behind their anominity.
If that were happen here, I'd be gone as would many others I'm quite sure. I've never found much attraction in a "cesspool".

Re: Why allow guest to post?
no, i too have never seen guests posting on other forums. you don't see people guest posting on the rcu or rcg do you? when we had the old field and model airplane club, we wouldn't even let far out of town guests fly their planes on our field. if i remember correctly we were highly over charged on the rent of 85 acres, that was back in the mid 70s. since we had to pay for rent, we would charge people $175 for each year. I wasnt the head of the club but there was a large board (president, vice pres, secretary and so forth) I was on the membership renew team. we had about 250 members, the field always had at least 5 different people out there every day along with the people who were always out there. it wasn't like today where i could just send an email. this is what was all involved
1, go through the file cabinet and pull out the folder of the month, the folder contained all the members who joined that month. there was usually about 20 member sheets in a folder, except for the winter months where there may be as little as 2 or 3
2, read each member sheet and fill out a renew notice (on a electric typewriter) i would put their name, amount and so on on it.
3, pull out a blank renew application and type their name on it.
4, run a small blank envelope through the typewriter and type the club PO box address/number onto the envelope and also the members return address in the corner
5, take a larger envelope and type the members address on it and then our PO box address/number in the corner.
6, put both sheets in the larger envelope and also include that smaller prestamped preaddressed envelope inside for the money return.
7, take them to the post office and away they go!
those were the days... the field is now a damn cookie cutter living community .
now we have email and could setup and send a paypal money request in under 5 minutes!
