Help with tissue needed
Do any of our UK members know a source of lightweight coloured tissue?
My problem is that every supplier I have found wants ludicrous amounts of postage to ship here, I need about 6 sheets, and the only supplier I can find sells this for £5.20, then wants £5.50 for postage! a leeetle bit expensive!
Any help much appreciated
Wilf

If Official Model Airplane Tissue isn't absolutely necessary, in a pinch I've used plain old wad-it-up gift wrap tissue from craft supply places. Usually can get colors (except OD green), shrinks and takes dope OK, and works good enough if you're just going to wind up crashing it to bits anyway...

I've used these people in the past. I was told recently that they now have a new owner which I think is terrific news. http://www.shortysbasement.com/index.php Ken

Thanks, Shawn, they are cheaper shipping from the US than I can get from England, and their tissue is cheaper too!
I've sent them a trial order to see how long they take to ship to me
Thanks again

Thanks, Indra, but, I quote............"so we will have to increase our postal charge to a minimum of £5.00"
For 6 sheets of tissue? I've ordered from the US, Shortys Basement, postage? £3.45! across the Atlantic, not just the Irish Sea!

Tissue
Imported tissue is vastly better than wrapping tissue. Domestic stuff is trash. Maybe ok to wrap gifts or wipe your tail and thats it. Stuff from Japan nets fine results and nothing quite like a nice tissue model. Silk is a fine product also.

Re: Help with tissue needed
Dan, I have to agree with you. I know when I'm covering a freeflight, I use the thinned white glue method. Putting on just enough is the key and you certainly don't want any excess glue to get onto the finished side of the covering as this will make a shiny spot on the final doping. The difference though is when domestic tissue gets wet, it wants to fall apart as where Jap tissue holds it's ground. In addition Jap tissue has a prefinished shiny side which also needs less dope to seal. I've been told about the glue stick method but never tried it. There is a real beauty in tissued covered models in my opinion. I use the domestic tissue on foam combat wings for trim colors covered with clear coverings. Ken

Re: Help with tissue needed
Got the tissue from Shorty's Basement today. Excellent service, just on a week for delivery, and the tissue was rolled and packed in a tube, the £5.50 delivery I quoted from England was for folded tissue, another £2 if you wanted it rolled!
It is plainly ridiculous that I can get stuff from the USA cheaper, both in cost and shipping, than I can from companies a couple of hundred miles away!

Paying for shipping puts the hurt on many items I would like. Many projects never get done because I need to buy from several vendors to get what I need. Bernie and Matt are reasonable and good service. Mecoa has flat rate thats not right by me. They have TD .010 tanks and back plates /also for TD .020. They are good about timely shipping but email replies are not to good.
