Wanted: Black Widow or Golden Bee
I'm kinda tired of looking on eBay...I actually had one guy RAISE the "Buy it now" price on a Black Widow, after I asked a question about the engine. Never seen that, before. He thought I was someone else who had obviously tried to get one over on him, earlier. Oh well! I let him know it WAS NOT me.
I see what these engines are going for on eBay. I'm not trying gouge anyone. I'm not a "collector", I'd like a good engine to put on a Sig Deweybird.
If anyone wants to part with a good running, used Black Widow or Golden Bee, PM me. If not...I guess I'll suck it up, and pay the (sometimes too high) going price.
BTW-I'm looking for a metal backplate engine.
If anyone thinks I'm wrong for asking...PM me about that, too! LOL

Re: Wanted: Black Widow or Golden Bee
In the last few weeks Ive bought 3 Black Widows NIB of Ebay. One was 42$ another was 57$ and the third was in between, all have metal backplates.
Thats about what they go for, you have to search well. Golden Bees are harder to find new. Why 3 ? Dont want to get caught short of BWs.

This was a nice Golden Bee, new. 31$ shipped, I let that one get away.

NIB? I can't find one used for less than $35...Believe me, I check often. Many times per day! I've even got a search "saved", to email me when there are new listings.
Thanks for the replies. BTW-I somehow missed that Golden Bee...Man!

Re: Wanted: Black Widow or Golden Bee
Well, I just did my daily ebay searches. I didn't really find any hidden Black Widows and Golden Bees.
Re: Wanted: Black Widow or Golden Bee
If I wanted one of those, This is what I would buy:
http://coxengines.ca/cox-.049-engine-black-widow-ii.html
or this
http://coxengines.ca/cox-.049-engine-golden-bee-ii.html
I don't know if Bernie is putting SPI pistons in those cylinders, but I bet he would if you asked him to.
I'm waiting for the TeeDee II to come out.

Wanted: Black Widow or Golden Bee
Hi,
Here`s a Black Widow .049 I`ve just come across on ebay. It`s got a few scratches
and the previous owner drilled a hole in the tank to allow fuel to be fed from an external tank.
Apparently it runs well? here`s the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cox-Black-Widow-049-Model-Airplane-Engine-Motor-Used-modified-Runs-Good-/290707834510?_trksid=m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D1%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8293402581315007616
Good luck!

Re: Wanted: Black Widow or Golden Bee
The one with hole drilled in the tank...no way. The second, "new" one: maybe, but I'm trying my best to get one with the metal backplate...
BTW- can anyone tell if the one in the box is an "Estes" era engine?
Thanks!

Nope, that one is not Estes. Looks to be late 80's early 90's judging from the plastic backplate and fully anodized engine (as well as the snap starter).

Re: Wanted: Black Widow or Golden Bee
Thanks, Matt.
I was bidding on a Black Widow last week from that seller. It went for $41.
Can these plastic backplates be replaced with a metal backplate? Though I can't remember ever seeing metal backplates for sale...
There are none on eBay...without an engine attached, anyways.

Mr G
Yep, if you see one of those, its Estes. There were some Black Widows made by Estes in 1996 that featured all the original Black Widow parts as they were using left over parts from the previous owners. Those Black Widows are often seen with silver tanks or silver crankcases or completely silver. Once the left over parts ran out, they started to subsitute parts and have cheaper parts made such as the plastic non-stunt tanks that they used on both the Babe Bee and the Black Widow. The only difference between a Estes Babe Bee and a Estes Black Widow is that the Black Widow has a #1 cylinder instead. LOL just yesterday, I just reassembled the Black Widow in the picture above, it has been in pieces for the last month because I often steal the tank from it to test another engines front end.
Cox Golden Bee .049
Are you still looking for a Golden Bee at a reasonable price?? I have a couple in ready almost to sell condition, but have been struggling with the battery and starter cable to lite the glow head. anyway i like to run the engine before i sell. i rebuilt the gaskets, new reed, reed clip if necessary and good glow head. i can send a pic in the morning, but this is only for AT1984. let me know if you are still interested and i will let you know of the low, low price. if you know nitrosmeller ask him if you can trust me. he is the one who convinced me to join the forum last night. again a special deal on a Cox .049 Golden Bee for AT1984 only. happydad. (maybe a little crazy too).
