Laird Super Solution build log
Cessna project is stalled for now so........
Time for my Solution!
Dumas makes a beautiful kit with laser cut parts and nice plans. The instructions are a bit tricky so new guys need to pay attention.
So far I have the fuselage framed out tomorrow will be wings. This one will be .049 powered and sport full house controls.
Here's a couple pics of the progress.

Those stick kits look really cool when built by a skilled modeler. I do want to try one, probably after this flying season winds down. But I just Hate the thought of its first full power gopher kill.
Anyone know what the weight difference between balsa and graphite is?

Re: Laird Super Solution build log
Not sure if that was a compliment or a slam Rusty!
I don't consider myself a skilled builder. Not compared to the stuff Wilf or some of the other guys turn out anyway.
Tonight was a slow night, the stab and elevator took some careful carving to get the right shape. An interesting build method in this kit calls for doubling the parts to achieve the correct thickness. Kind of like laminated plywood, not sure why. Perhaps for strength. I also managed to knock out the upper wing. Lower wing will be done tomorrow.
The wing itself is tiny compared to that big round fuselage. Looks funny!

Well Gents,
Not much in the way of progress tonight. I did manage to complete the lower wing. I still need to build ailerons into it. Pretty much all I have left is the wing struts and landing gear. More to follow, if anyone is following that is.

As many as I have engines for!
Just kidding but, in all reality the engines aren't any fun just being oiled up sitting in a plastic baggie.
Building is fun!

Re: Laird Super Solution build log
Tonight's meanderings didn't amount to much. I only managed to form the landing gear and cut out a firewall and mount the engine.
I am going to have to modify the cowl to mount the engine. I also cut out and assembled the wheel pants. Still need to do the plugging! I have put that off bexause it is so tedious. It really does need the reinforcing as that .049 will shred the fuse to pieces otherwise.
I snapped a couple pics.....

Thanks John,
I liked the way the solution looks so I decided the Dumas one was the way to go. The wings are so puny though! I hope between the two there is enough surface area to get it off the ground. Some folks have converted the Dumas kit to electric power and they say it flies quite well and is able to knife edge and do other stunts that I am unable to do.

Re: Laird Super Solution build log
This week was pretty much a bust. However, I did manage to sheet the forward fuse and plug plank the aft cowl section. I had never sheeted before and thank to Kim I managed to do an ok job with it.
I used 1/32 sheeting as to not mess up the profile. I stopped the sheeting at the third bulkhead as I only wanted it to beef up the nose area. I still need to design ailerons and figure out a way to access the radio gear. Based on Indra's suggestion I also picked up a couple rolls of solite covering. Hopefully I will have it done in the next couple weeks.

Goodnight John!
What a plane! It's a builders dream. It's even sized for our beloved Cox engines, albeit the larger ones. The price tag is surely astronomical! But, hey who ever said this hobby is cheap? Thanks for the link JB.

Yet they flew Kim! That's what I am banking on anyway. Looking at those flimsy little things it does make me wonder though.

Noticed the same thing, but thought there might be more to add.

I noticed the gap too!
Ron are you sure you used the right LE stick?
