Cox Pinto question
What engine did this car have and what would be a suitable replacement from our offerings?
Re: Cox Pinto question
If I recall correctly, this engine used the small 'two-ninety' style plastic backplate with a flywheel/gear on the front of the shaft. It also had a special type of throttle sleeve.
A complete, new engine will only be found in terms of new old stock parts with the exception of the glow head, piston, and maybe the cylinder.

Cox Pinto question
Hello Bernie, I had several cars/dragsters. I wish I saved all of them to be honest. One thing I did manage was to rescue and successfully run was a dragster a few months ago. I've owned the car for over 30 years and to see it run once again was great. Again, I have you to thank for that. My engine to my disbelief the engine has a single ported #2 Bee cylinder. I had saved some of the engines and again all single ported. I did however swap the cylinder to a dual ported cylinder. On 35% this is turning and burning. I assume when making reference to the 290 backplate that would be the same as the postage stamp backplate? I have noticed that these engines from my cars all have fine threaded needle valves. Some being the aluminum while others brass all in the short style. I assume what makes these engines really turn up is the fact that the load apparently is lighter using the flywheel and wheels vs a prop? Shawn

Re: Cox Pinto question
Unfortunately I know almost nothing about Cox cars but some members on this forum have great knowledge of the subject and would be better suited to answering your questions.
Re: Cox Pinto question
Hi Bernie,
Sorry, just noticed your post.
Shawn is correct, according to Dale Kirn's notes it's a single port (190-5) engine, the same as used on the Vega and Eagle.

Funny Car & Dragster
That's a beautiful job that you did on the funny car and dragster. I just discovered the Revell chrome paint and I sprayed the dragster dummy engine with it and it came out very nice.
