An event that rocked and changed the world forever the extent to which is yet to be fully understood. Today is a time for somber reflection not only upon the fallen but the world it left behind.

On that otherwise beautiful Sunday morning, news reports flowed across our nation and the entire world. Disbelief was soon replaced by a grim acceptance of the grim reality. Personally, I was fly fishing at a favorite alpine lake when I turned to NPR and heard the unbelievable. We packed up and drove home that afternoon to be with our families.

The following day, we listened to the Rev. Billy Graham deliver a eulogy from the National Catheral in WDC in the presence of the noteables of the time. It was the most sobering moment of my life.

Comments welcome.

I remember sitting at the kitchen table having a bowl of cereal when they announced on the TV that one of the towers has been hit by a plane. We all sat around and watched the TV, unsure what quite happened. I do remember watching the 2nd plane hit the 2nd tower. At that exact moment, we knew it was no accident...

I don't need to see the vid because the memory is forever etched in my mind. HORRIFIC for I soon realized the certain result: disbielf and then terror.

Curious to me that this suject has drawn so little comment some eight hours after posting on a Sunday.

Terrorism is a part of modern living and the more innocent the victims the better desired result for the prepetrators.

Absolute insanity, IMO.

first time on today. I remember exactly where i was when it happened. i was in our local hardware store picking up some stuff when one of the kids came running out of the back room with one of those little battery 5" black and white tvs and yelled over the PA for everyone to come over to the key desk. I was already standing right there and saw both buildings smoking. The kid said to us that there is another terrorist attack on the world trade center in new york. shortly after every employee and customer in the store was crowed around a small ass tv in a narrow isle, the news station showed a replay of the 2nd plane hitting the 2nd tower. I then left and went home to turn on the tv to watch the first tower collapse live and then the 2nd tower shortly after. A day that would have been a good day (weather wise) turned nasty.

I was sitting at the table eating a roast donna with parents GF and friends the I got a text from my friend saying "man are you watching this?"
I went to the living room turned on the TV and for the next half hour none of us uttered a word.
That moment will stay with
me for ever.

Personal rememberances aside, on that day came it to me the realization that the world had suddenly shrunken as indeed it has. The 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor had similar effect on my parent's gereration. Though I was but a "tad" at the time the realities of war and destruction were brought home to me as I grew up in the years of WWII. Air raid drills, rationing, bond drives, evening "blackouts" and much much more. Listening to the news reports on our Zenith Trans-Atlantic radio gave me vivid descriptions right in our living room: Edward R. Murrow reporting the German Luftwaffe 'blitz" on London for example. Being on the western coast of the US, in elementary school were we shown "flash cards" of Japanese aircraft to identify lest we saw one while at play we could report it.

There are no longer "safe harbors" from terrorism anywhere nor are there likely to be. Thomas Jefferson said it well many years ago: "Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom."

Let that phrase give you pause in your "busy" world.

I remember the terror attacks on London a few years back it was know where near as bad a 9/11 but it scared us all [bleep]. and the whole city broke down telephone connections were shut down and we were all wondering where our loved one where.
at least for you guys you knew if your family and friends worked at the world trade centre for us we never knew who was on a bus or a train and we had no way of contacting them.

Actually, 'twan't that simple for us here. There were FOUR planes planes crashed: two in NYC, one in WDC and one in Pennsylvannia.

nitro:

Don't mean to quibble over each other trauma but the 9/11 attacks predate those in London. Both where attacks on and within major ubran areas that cast a pawl over our repective countries which is exactly what the preps had in mind.

Some would spectulate that another coming prior to our '12 Presidential and Congressional elections.

i'm just happy that we're rebuilding ground zero. it is to show the world that we will
not be intimidated by a terrorist organisation, which uses the muslim religion (which
is in no case a religion based on war and surpressing those who do not believe)
to justify their wrongful doings, and by doing so giving the whole muslim
community a terrible image. these are not muslims. these are crazy people.

I was about 3 at the time, the family was about to take a trip to the museum. I was too young at the time to know what was really happening...

Fox News did a documentary a few weeks ago. Then I fully understood.

Yes one generally remembers when he see a claymore being planted on his drive way on his way to work.
