What I've been doing...
Here is my new 2001 Jeep Wrangler TJ I bought from Jeremy in December. Last night I wired and hung the dash. Hope to get it buttoned up this weekend. The hard part I think is that I didn't take it apart...
Before pics...
Bought new tires before I got it running.
Dash when I got it
Flashback... Me and my old YJ (before kids)

Yep, that is the hard part. The good thing is... it'll only go back together one way.WingingIt74 wrote:...Hope to get it buttoned up this weekend. The hard part I think is that I didn't take it apart...

Although it's moot now, why was t disassembled in the first place?
Suggest you buy a Haynes repair manual.

Re: What I've been doing...
It had a short in the wiring that ended up being a connector on the back of the fuse box.

Actually it can go back to gether MANY different ways. The trick is to find the correct way.
90% of mechanics is correct diagnosis prior to "wrenching". Wiring problems can often be found using a computer scan tool to read the codes in the vehicle's on-board computer.
Looks like someone didn't to that so you are dealing with result now.

Re: What I've been doing...
Actually, the scan tool didn't tell me much. The odometer told me "No Bus", which means it wasn't talking to the computer. So off hunting we went. I talked to JustAnswer.com's online mechanic and he had me test all the sensors and the computer plugs. One pin on the computer plug didn't have the right voltage. He said it was that wire.... so I finished taking the dash off. It ended up being the connector on the back of the fuse box for that wire, it wasn't attached to the fuse box. I used a screwdriver to push it back in and the connector broke off, so I had to get creative. I tried a few other connectors from other vehicles, but it didn't match.

You got it back together! I think this deserves a Jeep emoticon to be added to the forum!

Pictures can be deceiving... It still is muddy inside from when Jeremy owned it.

Ya Missouri is a crazy wild place I'm surprised I made it out of there in one piece, no worries on the jeep though
Re: What I've been doing...
Nice job Travis. Nothing like standing on your head and traceing out electrical gremlin's under the dash, not to mention putting back together someone else's disassembly.
Those Wild Country MTX's are a really good tire, made by Cooper. They will go about 40k-50k depending on the rock abrasion/offroad usage. A bit of a highway howl, but it is a big lug tread. The Local Les Schwab tire centers sell those. I spent 7 years there and sold many of the old style Wild Countrys all postiton and traction lug.
I run the 6 ply 30x9.50x15 BFG All Terrain TA/KO's. The last set I got 72K out of them (yep, 72K). A light toyota 4x4 pickup and easy wheeling and that mileage depends ALOT on how you drive. Top of the chart for as far as a light truck snow tire, and they do pretty good out in the wilds also.

I might have to steal your sliver/white jeep emoticon as you do know I have a sliver jeep, LOL.
Re: What I've been doing...
My last Jeep I had the RVTs and loved them. Not all Copper dealers carry Multi-Mile tires, so they are getting harder to find.
My last jeep I had:
• GoodYear ATs (came on the jeep new) - 30K shot
• Firestone Firehawk ATs - 30K shot
• BFG ATs - 30K shot
• Multi-Mile Wild Country RVTs - 40K miles on them and plenty of tread left (sold the Jeep with them on it)

Re: What I've been doing...
Yup, Those BFG AT's wear quickly, but when they are brand new, they are just as good as Bias ply Buckshot Mudders. I had a set of K-15 Buckshots mounted on spare wheels years ago and stupidly sold them for beer money,,lesson learned. Those Buckshot's are a animal tire,,you wont get stuck, no winch needed.

Not right now I don't, but I can ask around for you if you want me to. There are a few good auto salvage yards around here that had a few smashed up jeeps that could perhaps have what you need.
Re: What I've been doing...
Funny how I traded my last Jeep (YJ) for the 56, sold the 56 and ended up with another Jeep (TJ) again... same color too.
I've been working on the Jeep so much, haven't given much time to RC plane flying. But I do sneak a flight in here and there...

Re: What I've been doing...
I see I haven't updated this for awhile, so.....
Shortly after the above pic was taken (4-12-12) the yoke on the rear axle broke or the u-joint broke (not sure what went first), which bent the transfer case tail shaft and buggered up the drive shaft.
So I ordered all the pieces to do a Slip Yoke Eliminator (SYE) kit, which will shorten the tail shaft, putting the slip on the driveshaft and also allow me to remove the transfer case drop. I also ordered a new front and rear driveshaft and all adjustable control arms and track bars. I've never done a SYE before, so it should be a learning experience. This Sunday I finally got the t-case dropped. I have it on jack stands so I can drain the oil.
As you can see I've been knee deep in projects. I'm going to try to get this T-case done this week and try to install it this next weekend.... that's the plan anyway. However my garage door broke and I got it barely back together just enough to go down, which happened Sunday too. I swear it never ends with things breaking.... Jeep, microwave, mini bike, lawn mower and now the garage door.... geez!

Re: What I've been doing...
Tiny little u-joints on the snapped piece. 1310's maybe.
Luv it when the very young kids put a 6"-8"+ lift with 35"+ bogger mudders on a stock jeep, and then wonder why it keeps breaking everything. I just sit back and laugh.
if you want the look of a logging skidder with the durability,,just go buy one.
