How does a SYE (slip yoke eliminator) function when the driveshaft goes over rough terrain? I would think the articulation would be greatly reduced if not eliminated.

You replace the stock drive shaft with a double cardin drive shaft. It has a double u-joint similar to a CV joint and the slip is on the shaft instead of on the yoke. This will greatly increase the articulation from stock. I also have to put on adjustable control arms and track bars.
Re: What I've been doing...
So in essense, the slip-joint function isn't so much elimated as moved to a different location.
Thanks,

Thanks,
That would be correct, in a simple term. The DC drive shaft is capable of greater angles, which also means I can eliminate my transfer case drop and gain ground clearance.

Travis:
The reason I'm asking is that I helped my son build his '76 Jeep CJ-7 with 350 Chev/Turbo-Hydromatic 400 w/33" tires. The SJE must be a fairly new idea on the Jeep scene. We had the driveshafts cut and balanced to meet the application and he runs his Jeep at Moab, Utah to do some serious "crawlin'".
(I can't even watch him to do it!)

Re: What I've been doing...
Depends on the transfer case. Mine is a NV231. We have mild stuff compared to out there.
I plan on swapping my puck lift for a 2.5" OME lift and doing a 1.5" body lift. With that I can raise my engine and transfer case and have a smooth skid plate for more ground clearance (ie: tummy tuck), instead of the hanging down stock skid plate. I really don't want larger then 33" tires.

Tom Woods is the man to see for high angle or any angle driveshaft stuff. Used his services in the past. If you need some quick answers to driveshaft problems, give him a buzz. He can tell you all about proper angles of gear cases, ect, and the required pieces to make it all work and live. He does it for a living and is a plethora of info that you or me will never know.

Both of my drive shafts are from him, I ordered them, just need to get him dimensions.
Re: What I've been doing...
My buddy Charlie and I spent ~12 hours on it today and I am happy to say it's alive!!!
Re: What I've been doing...
Finished up the rear axle swap ( Ford 8.8 ) and 3" Teraflex lift about 12pm today. T-case still bangs a little, but I'm not in the mood to drop it just yet.
Happy Easter!

Maybe having too much fun?
I remember putting my boss' Miata on fork one day. (I used a skid to protect the under body.) She was amused. Not every day you get to mess with the boss' car and get away with it.

Well dang Travis, you are pretty good at that stuff. I thought you were going to high center on the banks. I also really respect the fact you are not afraid to wreck your Jeep. I see a lot of posers. You are not one of them.
Good job man! Greenie for you!
