Happy Lo and Behold!!! my best buy ever of a TeeDee010...in Hungary!!!

I would not have bet too much money yesterday on finding anything when entered "COX modellmotor" (= COX model engine) in Hungarian language in Google just to check if there is anything related on sale in my very neighborhood, and....LO and BEHOLD, a post on the Modellezők (Modelers) group of FB popped up, with a humble ad by someone in Budapest selling his original, never used COX TeeDee010 for the equivalent of 39 (thirty nine !!!!) USD. You should know that COX is a very rare brand in Hungary with only a handful of old f@rts like myself ever to have seen, let alone, run one...

I fixed a meeting and met the  guy today, who told me the engine was brought, 63 years ago, from LA to Budapest by his uncle (the uncle may have returned to Hungary after emigrating into the US following the 1956 uprising in Hungary against the Soviet occupation, when a state amnesty pledged unpunished return for dissidents in the early 1960-s), and the seller guy, the nephew of the dissident  (in his mid-70-s today)  got it from the uncle as a present, that he has never used, and luckily decided to part with it, today:

Lo and Behold!!! my best buy ever of a TeeDee010...in Hungary!!! 20241111

Much to my surprise the engine came to Hungary  right from the old COX Poinsettia unit in LA, the Quonset huts, around 63 years ago, as the attached Instruction sheet and its  Litho date 02/61 in its bottom corner testify, ( a 2018 photo below with myself proudly holding another TeeDee010 right in front of the re-purposed military Quonset huts, that once housed the  former COX factory before they moved into the more modern buildings in 1305 and 1505, East Warner Ave. in Santa Ana) DISASSEMBLED...

Lo and Behold!!! my best buy ever of a TeeDee010...in Hungary!!! 20180910

I knew COX sold disassembled PeeWee-s in "Engine Kits" to  encourage young modelers back in the day to familiarize with their engines , but have never heard the TeeDee010 was also part of the Engine Kit program?...the only critical part to assemble is the prop drive plate that really needs attention for proper alignment when pressing on the shaft end...

The cylinder and glow head are currently soaked in nail polish remover acetone, in an effort to remove the head sitting tightly on the cylinder, because before I assemble the engine I want to check its cylinder internals and clean it thoroughly.

My goodness, this find was the best surprise and buy in this decade of my life...

Wow Andras!! What a nice story!!…. That is an amazingly small chance for something like that to happen!!…. I’m sure your heart was racing when you saw the ad and the price….. Very happy for you to acquire that nice little engine…. A nice early model as well…. Some of the best of the best!!…Along with the paperwork no less…. You will enjoy your time making it picture perfect and putting it in good running order Very Happy

My Dad's Mother came to the USA from Hungary in the early 1900s as a Child Seamtress..ready to make a living as a teenager.

Oh yeah...pretty good find and very interesting story about the engine's history...!

Congratulations András, it's a very good find and a question of good fate for that engine, since you clearly have a love for Cox engines.
Enjoy it!... Beer Cheers

Hey Chuck and Mauricio, thank you!

Plenty of Hungarians immigrated in the NEW World in the 1900-s in hopes of a new life and prosperity, and my parents, both doctors, could have had me born in the US had they not turned back from the Hungarian-Austrian border in late 1956 when a war against Russian tanks raged in Hungary and several hundreds of thousands of Hungarians ran for freedom from Russian occupation. But my mother could not part with her brothers and sisters and they stayed to have me born here...unless I turn out to be a grasshopper in my next life, I want to be re-born around 1958 in California...somewhere between San Francisco and San Diego, such details do not really matter... Very Happy

It's such a gift to be born in the USA Andras, and so many here do not appreciate it.  We ebb and flow, lose faith then regain it.  Hungary is a beautiful country that I would love to visit, but with a somewhat wacky leader that I do not quite understand.  Both the Smithsonian and PBS TV channels here have aired documentaries about Hungary.

Thanks Bob, Hungary would be a great place to live had voters not made their mistakes in keeping our crooked orban and his cronies in power for 14 years..

I watched the US election and envy you guys for your national pride and love for your great and beautiful country - on both sides of the voters- that I have lost for mine thanks to the said prime minister of ours, running amok among various dictators because the civilized world has turned away from him..but this should probably be discussed on Redneck before we turn too political..

I think San Diego was the greatest place on Earth before it became overpopulated.
Real Estate values and rental costs were both very "undervalued" as late as the 1970s.
