Cox Engine of The Month
td 0.20 question.
td 0.20 question.
I purchaced an Ace Littlest Stick from Willy Nillies a couple of week ago. I first put a Pee Wee 0.20 on the nose but only got one flight on it before the engine started acting up (since straightened out). I replaced the Pee Wee with a new TD 0.20 and it flies the little Stick great, with just one problem. Yesterday a friend timed two flights from startup until the engine quit in flight. The first flight was 45 seconds, the second was 41 seconds. Is this normal with the stock tank?

Re: td 0.20 question.
I would doubt the tank of TeeDee020 was designed for a less than 1 minute run. The tank of its little brother 010 holds fuel of 3ccm enough for about 2 minutes. Conceptually I would find it weird from COX if the tank of 020 TeeDee had been designed for a significantly different duration than that of the 010.
Have you checked the annulus paper gasket under the backplate of the tank?

Re: td 0.20 question.
No I haven't. The engine is new with six or seven flights on it. I haven't notices any fuel dripping from around the tank while I'm starting it, but I will check.

Re: td 0.20 question.
Balogh, you nailed it. The gasket inside the tank back plate was installed wrong, the gasket has two holes that match with two little protrusion on the back plate and they were 180 degrees
out. Unfortunately, putting the gasket in right didn't help. The gasket is really stiff and dried out and it's still not sealing. I'm not going to bother getting a new gasket, I have one of the larger aluminum tanks on the way. With no leaks and 80 percent more fuel, hopefully I'll get closer to four minutes.
Thanks,
Allen

Re: td 0.20 question.
Did you check the orientation of the pick up hose inside the tank?? If it was set up for CL its only picking up 1/2 the fuel .. set it to the bottom of the tank.. I think you should get 2-3 mins. run time

Re: td 0.20 question.
Hey Eric,
The stock TeeDee020 plastic tank has a nipple at its bottom right where a fuel line from the carb is attached. In a CL flight it maybe an issue because the fuel is always taken from the tank bottom. But in straight RC flight or free flight I guess this is the right nipple position.

Re: td 0.20 question.
Welcome Allen, Ace LS is a great flyer, I have one from the 80’s still flying….. Great windy weather flyer for a small RC….Mine is powered by a PeeWee .020 with auxiliary balloon tank…. Six cc’s gives about four minutes….. TeeDee .020 will consume a little more…. Ought to be a hot rod with that engine…. Let us know how it works out

I missed it when Allen was talking about the PeeWee and switched to the TD (as the title says ) Sorry but thats what you would do for a PeeWeebalogh wrote:Hey Eric,

Re: td 0.20 question.
Isn't the Littlest Stick an R/C aircraft? Then then stock tank on the .020 TD is oriented correctly. For C/L, one would probably dispense with the stock tank and put the plain back on, use a separate wedge tank or other tank of choice. Right?
