Straight down-stream along the bore is the way they come/came from the factory.

Not only for Medallions but all engines with spray bar holes.

In theory though, you have a slightly better under-pressure slightly away from straight downstream. PAW for instance utilities that and have made two holes, both are downstream but none straight downstream. Another example is the rotatable spray bar on Supertigre carbs, which enables adjustment of the midrange.

On the Medallion you only have six positions to choose from though, and the one straight downstream is the one to use.

You have 3 downward choices because of the hex shaped seat. Put it in the position that points down and towards the front. It gets way better draw there than straight down.

Can't say that's been confirmed by my experience but that's OK.
