estes black widow ?
Hello I m Mariano , from argentine : I have an anodized black tank and cranckase , large exhaust port , and silver metal backplate , with hexagonal prop plate cox black widow . The question is , can be an estes black widow from 2000 ? , it came with no box , only an engine parts order form of centuri@2000 .

Re: estes black widow ?
it sounds like one made before 1983. after 1983 most cox engines came with a plastic back plate in place of the old metal. it could be possible that estes sold that one right after they bought cox in 1996 or someone could have just placed that parts list with your engine when you got it.

Re: estes black widow ?
Hi Mariano, Carl is correct, It sounds like its a Black Widow made around 1983 because of the metal backplate. In 1996 Estes bought Cox so someone else must have included a parts list from a post 2000 engine with your engine. The post 2000 Black Widows have a black plastic tank assembly with a plain aluminum crankcase like below.
black widow
thanks , i supose the estes part list is not corresponding with that engine . But experts opinion like yours its much better . My starting collection is a KILLER BEE 96 , buyed that year in aero sur Bs As , 049 TEE DEE , TEXACO JR , .051 with red plastic tank tee dee , a 1992 dragonfly , a black widow , a 1960 pee wee 0.2 , a 1985 babe bee , a two ninenty , and other brands engines like mk17 , atwood .049 etc . Congratulations carl and admin for your collections .

Probably a pup.
Even the Estes ones use open ports.

Do you mean the exhaust ports?
I got 3 backwidows in my own collection here and from two of them im sure they are genuine cox. they all got the slotted/devided exhaust ports.
Will look tomorrow what my for sale engines have. which are 100% genuine.
Best regards,
Bastiaan

Yeah sloted Ports Bastiaan
Mine seems slightly schizophrenic though, it's def got the pre 83 alloy back plate, but if the
cylinder and head have been changed the 'changee' was very careful with the wrenches
cos I can't see it's been 'spannered'.

Do they have a square shaped cox logo on the back and say anything about Leisure Dynamics?
Re: estes black widow ?
Okey, now this is what i got:
2 x used black widow, original supplied with a graupner mirage IIIC (1981) SLOTTED (also slotted on manual)
1 x NIB Leisure dynamics with metal tankplate SLOTTED
1 x NIB spider case, metal tankplate Open
3 x NIB 11-12-1988 Santa Ana plastic backplate OPEN
So I guess they are sold both way

Re: estes black widow ?
I think Jacob meant the box. That is where the leisure dynamics logo should be.
