Re: Even more crispy, even more better. Cox 140
Crispy, indeed!! Looks like someone was in the process of trying to convert it to glow. Without any points/condenser/flywheel, are you going to try to get it to run as glow, or just do your usual top-of-the-line cleanup?
Re: Even more crispy, even more better. Cox 140
That's a "Rhino" 140. A Cox gasoline Roper/Beaver 140 engine that was converted to glow by someone and sold as a glow engine for models. I don't know by whom or when those were converted to glow and sold, but I know a few members on here with them.
I wonder if they modified the carb any, drilled out jets, etc. to make it work with glow fuel vs gasoline. Otherwise, it's a neat engine on its own.

Sellers description:
PROPELLER IS NOT INCLUDED IN AUCTION, it is broken and will be cut prior to shipping!
You are bidding on a vintage Cox 140 Rhino engine that was used in the Beaver Chainsaw and also for large scale R/C airplanes! This is attic fresh and will clean up nicely, I have left all the dust on it. This one was made for Kolbo Korp, and is marked on the engine and the propeller is also marked Kolbo. It has EXCELLENT COMPRESSION, and should run fine with a good cleaning and fresh glow plug!
I have never heard of Kolbo or their propellers. Anybody?
Different mount structure from their chainsaw engines. It looks like the air filter is a smaller version of the chainsaw engines.

That is interesting Eric.
How did a Cox bike/chainsaw engine wind up with Kolbo Corp? .........and with a serial number. R2015, can't be a date. Seller has no additional information other than a barn find.

Eric's link in his post mentions that the Kolbo Korp was a military contractor for drones. It could be possible that the Cox 140 Rhino engine was used in early military airplane drones of the day for target practice.
(Just think, being an "NCO technical sargeant", later designated Specialist 5, 6 or 7, whose specialty was to set up, fly and retrieve those drones, using say reed equipment of the day on military frequencies, what a way to earn a salary, almost as good as playing in the band.)
Back in the 1990's, I remember the large foam Carl Goldberg Mig-23's powered by a K&B .65 Sportster engine that the NM Army National Guard had, to be used with their air defense artillery simulators. The plane was 3 channel, motor, elevator, ailerons. Used military frequencies for operation. Came in a crate with about a half dozen aiplanes, almost RTF style. (One removed the engine, tank and radio gear, transferred them to the new plane, then good to go. Radio was organized in a tray with servos mounted. I think the aileron servos were separate in the foam wing.)
Later those drones sans the military radios (used standard sized servos) were selling as surplus on the various Internet auctions and a few other places back then into the early 2000's.

Re: Even more crispy, even more better. Cox 140
Got the Rhino 140 engine. They scrubbed the COX brand off and substituted an engraved Kolbo but kept Made in USA. Air cleaner similiar to the chainsaw engine but smaller. Mark over today and between us got the chain ratchet amd the flywheel off. Only way to get to the engine which out of the four was the only one free despite a lot of corrosion. This one has swapped sides for the gas/chail oil. I can't figure out why they did that. Perhaps a manufacturing error that they just kept and used.
Despite saying they would, seller did not send the Kolbo marked propeller.

Re: Even more crispy, even more better. Cox 140
I had big plans for this engine, disassemble, media blast and run it. Didn't happen. I opened it up and it was clean and unrun. Decided to leave it as is. I did remove the head and media blasted it and the rusty hex-heads.
Put it back together, found an old nasty prop and built a stand for it. Placed it among friends.
