Cox Engine of The Month
SIRS Vintage Model Aviation Day this weekend!

SIRS Vintage Model Aviation Day this weekend!
The Sentral Illinois Radio Society is hosting a Vintage Model Aviation Day at their field near Mclean IL. Last years event was great, and Cox models were well represented. We're hoping for even more this year. I'm planning on bringing these 3, so I dusted them off and gave them a test run to make sure they are ready to go this weekend.
This PT-19 had a left hand starter spring, but no prop when I got it. I found a LH Tornado 5x3 in my stash, so that's what it is using.
This Super Sport trainer wants to fly. It started on the first flip after sitting for who knows how long.
What could be more appropriate for early July than a Miss America?

Beautiful planes. Will you have some videos or photos made on their flights?

Wow! What a great day of flying
A fantastic turnout of Cox plastic. We had more CL than RC action today. The day started a bit wet, but the rain soon stopped. Wind was light, easily managed. I flew the PT-19 and Miss America. The Super Sport trainer had an issue with a dragging wheel, and couldn't take off. After a little time in the shop this evening, it is ready to try again tomorrow.
Jerry put up his T-28 and Skyraider, Darrell flew his PT-19, Ultimate bipe, and a fantastic F4B-4. Kim flew a Wen Mac P-63, and ran a Shrike on the runway, which was almost wide enough.
There was more, but I'll leave some for Kim to report. As usual, I didn't get any pictures, but Kim videoed the action. I'm hoping he will post some of it here.
The best part is, we get to do it again tomorrow!

Enjoyed the first video, Kim, especially your Shrike with Black Widow. Going backwards, goes to show how inefficient the prop is running backwards. It was moving much slower. Running forward, the Widow makes it really move out.

Hi Kim,
Thanks for posting the great videos. Much appreciated !
Like I was there. Some observations:
-nice 'limp' windsock, very hard to organize !
-the distance between the two 'BeTweens'...
-a rich BiSlob flight, did a grass lap touch and go, and leaned out for hovering and a tail and go !
-very nice Cox CL flights... Love that doppler sound effect, you don't get at the handle !
Also,
According to my calculations:
With your Shrike, you got 40mph backwards/60mph fwd...
Congratulations !
Worlds first 100mph Shrike !
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Hey Mauricio,
That's Breezy Hill Flyer Leo, flying John Cralley's "Bi-Slob". Leo has his own example, and is pretty accomplished at getting them to hover.

How is John Cralley these days? He was instrumentally one of the administrators on the Brotherhood of the Ring website, which unfortunately over time lost its membership and finally was taken off-line. It was going great may be 8 years ago, then had a falling out of some sort. I don't fully understand the contentions that went one, but people left the forum one by one.Kim wrote:That's Breezy Hill Flyer Leo, flying John Cralley's "Bi-Slob".
Then it was down to only a very small handful. may be 4 years ago, then hardly anyone posted. I was saddened to see it bite the dust along with Stuka Stunt forums.

John is still ticking along. He and wife, Mary, celebrated their 60th Anniversary this past June.
He was at the Celebration both days, bringing his Ringmaster and Bi-Slob. I got to fly his Ringmaster on Saturday, and then Leo flew both his Ringmaster and Bi-Slob on Sunday.
I SOMEHOW forgot AGAIN to get a photo of all of us with John and Mary, and it will be a priority to do that if I go back for their "National Model Aviation Day" on August 12th.
Yeah, I joined the Brotherhood of the Ring a couple years before it went dead. It was a great time at first, and I got several Ringmaster mugs, stickers, and shirts from the members who sold them.
It just gradually became more difficult to log in and their were lots of complaints about hacking associated with the site's function. I think also that some of the members passed away.
John established a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/475598765797420 that carries on sort of like the original site, and also is a connection for logging flights of the World-Wide Ringmaster Fly-a-Thon (coming this October 7th & 8th).

Thanks for the update on John, Kim. That's quite a testimony to be married 60 years. Today, that is unheard of.Kim wrote:John is still ticking along. He and wife, Mary, celebrated their 60th Anniversary this past June.

I don't do Fbk, no longer have an account with them, didn't like their cancel culture over benign things estranged with their strange definition on abuse.
I hope this forum never migrates to social media. The older forums on CompuServe, Yahoo, Geocities, even the old bulletin boards, etc. were far better than today's social media. There are a few hangouts on music that I hope continue like CEF.
