Flea Market Cox P-51 "Razorback"

Flea Market Cox P-51 "Razorback"
I didn't have one.
Mark at the flea market this past weekend and stopped to see a vendor friend. Gave Mark the Corsair box and instructions and the P-51 because he has been a good customer. Mark gave him $20 anyway.
Just the right amount of crispy to make me happy. Missing the spinner, a small non-stressed crack in the wing, and the engine locked. A wall hangar with my other non-Cox P-51's after a cleanup.

Re: Flea Market Cox P-51 "Razorback"
Brings back memories, that is the same model of P-51 I had in high school (B or D?). Later, Cox dropped that for the one with a bubble canopy. Bought it for $2.00 at Gem in Waipahu, HI (an early K-Mart like store). It was their outdoor lawn tent sale, was missing box, accessories, fuselage rear bottom and elevator. (Still have the donor 190 red postage stamp back engine.)
I made the missing out of 1/16" thick sheet balsa, mounted elevator on to stabilizer with cloth hinges and half-A control horn, finished in sanding sealer and Pactra Olive Green dope.
Appears seller didn't know how to mount the wing. It has molded plastic dowel pins front and back on each side, run them over the fuselage rails at on each side of the wing opening. (Perhaps dowel pins are broken?)

Re: Flea Market Cox P-51 "Razorback"
Nice Mustang Bob…. That particular model was the first time for me as about a 10 yo to see a U/C successfully fly…. A kid down the road got one as a gift and his dad had some modeling experience and he could fly it well…. He flew it often too…. We could hear it from a long way off so when they ran it we’d hop on our bikes and go watch …

Re: Flea Market Cox P-51 "Razorback"
I wasn't sure if I had one or not, checked the basement and no, no Cox P-51's. Not that I have bunches of these, more like my memory fades with each sunset.
You would think I would have one, probably one of Cox's most popular models. The extent of my P-51's, all D models with the bubble canopy.
But I do have that OK Cub powered razorback I shared in another thread. Still pondering what to do about that one.
While in the basement I tinkered with it a bit. Castor goo has cemented both front and aft fuselage structures. The bellcrank is there but it's missing the control rod. Minor. Missing the spinner too and the prop is mis-shapen. But the fuel tank, nipples, and fuel line look ok. Rubber band posts are there, just needs to be strung properly.
Whole nose, engine and all will get dumped in Berrymans. I have done this before with no ill effects to the plastics color or finish. Only about 10 minutes does the job.
A Ha.......checked my spare parts and found spare props and spinners. I think the yellow a good replacement.
Mark also found me car brochures from the 1950's. I go nutz over the styling in that era. Every year when the new models came out we would pile into someones car, mostly my old Ford and visit every new car showroom within 20 miles of our hometown. Rusty Drake, Melvin Cross, George Reynolds, Carroll Dudley, Teddy Langford, Romeo Leveque all members of my class of 1955. 25 of us, one my future wife.

Let's see............where are we. Seems I was talking Ok Cubs and the P-51..............No matter, I'll pick it up here.
Got in the 4/40X1 1/4. Perfect size for the Ok Cub's replacement which I robbed for the Fuji.............Fuji that's it. ) ebay, choose your size, length, and amount. 15 each with free shipping. Fifteen should last me for the duration.
Cleaned up the P-51'a wing a bit and repaired the crack with Testers Red Tube from the underside.
