Re: In Search of - Tee Dee .049/.051 pressure backplate
I believe the NORVEL and Tee Dee backplates will interchange -- my Tee Dee's are stored away and not easily accessible, or I would check. Pressure backplates for the NORVEL are available through NV Engines, however, NV Engines is a Russian company and I don't know if their US contact is still in business or if they can get parts out of Russia given the current situation with Ukraine.

Norvel doesn't interchange with the Cox TD. The reason the KK backplate worked is for two reasons. 1st, you only need a very small hole only a few thousandth's. 2nd, the KK unit had a one way ball check valve otherwise the engine surges without it. In addition, the stock needle valve can also become too sensitive using crank pressure therefore it's highly recommended to use the 128 TPI KK needle assembly. It really prevents the engine from flooding when cranked over initially.
Ive done this many times, use the stock backplate, drill it for a piece of 1/32" tubing and JB weld it into the backplate. Leave a stem about 1" long and take a piece of .015" music wire and blacken the end by placing it over a candle. Solder the end of the pipe and while the solder is molten, insert the blackened end of the music wire. It will retract when cool due to the blackened end. If needed, you can put a one way valve by Formost inline on the pressure line.

Super info, Ken - thanks!
I'm flying an .051 with a KK backplate and needle assembly and it screams with solid run from one end of the tank to the other.
I have a couple/three more of the KK fine-thread needle assemblies and hope to find at least one more backplate to pair up with them.
I may try your idea in making my own. I have a couple of backplates floating around.
I'm thinking maybe to use a threaded pressure tap (along with JB weld). Have you tried it that way?

I have used a pressure tap but, most of the time the hole is far too large. As I mentioned, you only need a very small hole. I rarely use crank pressure due to the possibility of flooding on crank up. I use bladder pressure.

I was going to try your trick with the fine wire blacked with a match pulled through a solder filler.
