Re: Car smart - Quiz
#1 - 3 (no idea what it is, but looks like a decent start for an old school hot rod roadster with the disc wheels and all )
#2 - 9 (mildly hot-rodded Ford pick-up from the '50s...yum)
#3 - 7 (dad had an oval window bug, with the sunroof and all, before I was born, and my mom had a yellow '74 that I learned to drive with)
#4 - 10 (Oh yes! Datsun Z in "correct" colours and unmolested. Me likes!)
#5 - 6 (Kaiser, right? Not my cup of tea, frankly, but a beautiful car nonetheless)

Re: Car smart - Quiz
I included the 280Z for you Robert.
#1 - 1923 Studebaker
#2 - 1951 F-1 Pickup
#3 - 1958 Volkswagen Beetle
#4 - 1979 Datusn 280ZX
#5 - 1954 Kaiser
My favorites - Just reverse the list. All are presently for sale on Bring-a-Trailer.
I started out thinking I will quiz on model airplane engines, but knew you guys would blow me out of the water on that. So I went with vehicles.
Second thoughts on the engines..... Favorites/displacement optional. Just ID make/model/variation on the below pictured engines from my collection. One through ten. Maybe not so easy, huh?

I included the 280Z for you Robert. Smile
Thanks Bob, I enjoyed the car for a long time…. A few more details on it: It was an ‘83
ZX-T (for turbocharged) ….. The last year Datsun made them…. The “T” version came as a special package, Bronzed glass, Swastika wheels, Hydraulic dampers for the overhead cam (as opposed to solid on the others),….The “vent” on the left side of the hood was really a functional scoop that brought air in and went thru a series of baffles to direct it over the charger and out the bottom…. A built in vacuum pump for accessories for when the turbo put the intake to positive….Full digital dash…. A neat little ladies voice for prompts when the door was not fully closed, Headlights left on, low fuel, ….T—Tops…. Etc….The only mods I did to it was a higher capacity charger (would lift the waste gate at full throttle), A free flowing muffler, And the covers for the sugar scoop headlights…
Mine was 2+2 but the back seats were tiny….. Really only large enough for small kids which mine were at the time….. They practically grew up with that car…. I could fold the seats down and the rear deck was huge…… I could haul my .60 size pattern bird and flight box with the hatch closed no problem….. One end of the wing would be on the center console between the front seats….The car was dead on reliable and never stranded me one time….
Now if we could juggle time frames around I bet I could take your RX-7!!!….. Second thought, Not so sure, You’re a pretty good engine guy …… Continue to have fun with your restore Bob…. Got to think about your model engine choices for awhile
Robert

Re: Car smart - Quiz
"I bet I could take your RX-7"...........Yes you could. Just for fun I checked both for 0-60 and quarter times.
1983 Datusn 280ZX-T - Zero to sixty 7.2 seconds, quarter 15.5 seconds
1984 Mazda RX-7GSL-SE - Zero to sixty 7.7 seconds, quarter 15.7 seconds.
I like your Datsuns grandsons time better. My 2007 Nissan 350Z - Zero to 60 in 5.4 seconds. Not extremely quick, but it's how it gets there through the slickest six speed I have ever driven. The shift gates just guide it, smooth and effort free. Some different from my 1937 Ford coupe with three on the floor back in 1953.
Coming out of town going towards my house is an uphill 7% grade rural with a sloping right hand turn at the top. Usually I'm just coming out of fourth hitting.........well maybe I should not go there.........
You might be interested.

Hmm.........I thought the peanut gallery here would eat up my engine quiz. Maybe to hard/easy? Or, maybe quiz/school time is over for the season.

Cox buggy engine
So cool! I'd never owned a Cox buggy.. so until "you" gifted me a buggy engine 6 years ago; I'd never known how they were set up.
Some pics I took of the one you sent me..
I wanna run it soon with that exhaust diverter.. to see how it sounds. (note: the pinhole through the diverter's wall; 180 degrees opposite the the main header..)
Re: Car smart - Quiz
Little to do with model aircraft engines, but since a point was brought up on speed of 4 wheelers regarding speed, I like my 2001 Kawasaki ZG1200 Voyager XII touring motorcycle. In the 2003 Motorcycle Consumer News, the 1999 edition bested the 1983 Datusn 280ZX-T by 2.36 seconds at 13.14 in the quarter mile at 97.70 MPH off the showroom floor.

Re: Car smart - Quiz
When I was following Z stuff in the 90’s there was a couple of interesting build options that were popular….One was to install a 280 ZXT engine in the earlier 240 or 260 cars…. It was a drop in, bolt in job….. The 240’s were physically smaller and several hundred pounds lighter…..Made kind of a poor boy exotic….. I thought it a really neat build but a young family at the time had more of my attention…… The other was install a small block Chevy…. There was even a kit made for it….. I thought that one was a crime!!!
Had my fun with bikes George, 70’s enduros, Kawasaki, Yamaha…..Noisy two strokes with tuned pipes!!!… Put the oil right in the gas tank LOL!!! Dad would not allow us to have street bikes….. Really the dirt bikes were better suited for where we were….We thought the movie “On Any Sunday “ was the best ever!!!
Nice buggy engine roddie…. Looks like an EOM candidate !!!

The funny part is.........I have posted about all of them here on the forum over the past several years. I'm such a gab when it comes to model engines and cars.

Re: Car smart - Quiz
Ok, so this has devolved into something different........so a little RX-7 update - Yesterday........Front brake cooling air duct repair. Used up my old aerosol paint. Wire wheel/sandblast. Not beautiful but functional. If I was in my mid fifties instead of my mid eighties I would remove the engine, strip the interior and undercrarriage and start from scratrch. Took me six years to do my Corvette. Not sure if I have that kind of time left.
But!!!
What about those model engines? Only roddie has stepped up. Three quarters of them are gimmies with a just a little thought about the variations. I gotta check the title of this forum again. [b]Cox Engine Forum[/b or Little Sisters of the Poor.
Edit add: Gotta admit, I cracked a little smile when I wrote that last.................
The irreverent Bob (Thanks Mark )

Like me then LOL
Six years is not the end of the world, when you want to do things seriously and thouroughly. I bought my Tatra in 1997 or 1998!!

Okay, lets have a shot- (at a couple anyway)
First one, just a regular Cox reedy "parts" engine, using one of Cox International's Copper mis-anodized 8cc tanks.
#2- Wen Mac MkII with original red head and copper tank.
#3 looks like a poor copy of an Enya .15. Can't track down the maker.
#4- HB .15
#7- Roddy got that.
#8- K&B (or Aurora) Tornado .049.
#10- A different version of the Wen Mac MkII with exhaust throttle baffle.
How'd I do?
Rod.
Note:- Bob, I found the pictures of #3 in one of your previous posts regarding Thunder Tiger engines and the Enya 15 clone. You didn't name it but it's Taiwanese like Thunder Tiger. There's also an SLH15 which looks very much an Enya clone, but I haven't confirmed the logo of your engine yet.

"How'd I do"
Great....restored my faith in the CEF, well 1/32nd of it - you and roddie.
#1 - You nailed it. I thought everyone would chime in on it. Lot's of buzz here when Bernie offered them. I made up a couple. This one thick wall cylinder with a thin straight nose non-grooved case and a plastic back plate.
#2 - Third release Wen Mac .049 with a natural copper case. Quite rare, found on ebay. I posted about it and Mark Boesen mentioned that he had bid on it also. So, after a year or two I sent it to him. Got to missing it so I found this one also on ebay.
#3 - You nailed this one also (In red text)
#4 - Ditto HB .15 with a Perry carburator. Interesting triangle HB script logo.
#5 - Taifun .15 Hurrikan (Made in Germany)
#6 - Fuji .35
#7 - roddie
#8 - Aurora (K&B) .049. They also offered a .061
#9 - Dual stack. Something of a mystery only marked Fury in a nicely raised script.
#10 - Wen Mac .049 with exhaust baffle and pull string starter.
Now about those "Little Sisters".........................................................................
