Norvel Tee Dee.049 Mount/tanks
I was out at My R\C flying field In Corpus Christi TX, yesterday I had been flying my little Tee Dee .049 combat plane with a latex pressure balloon style tank out there. Most of the guys out there don't have any idea of have ever even seen a C/L plane. Anyway This old timer gave me these tanks. WOW I have never even seen this style of Tee Dee mount/tanks before... I remember the Red Tee Dee ones I think were made by Cox. I thought to share...

I don't think I'll be using these Norvel tanks... they were just a random gift..getback wrote:Good run for 1.5 mins. a lot going on ! I haven't used the Norvel tanks But have heard on here that there phoned to leaks so bee carful ,, Oh yea what plane is that , Thanks

Gene's plane is similar to Dirty Dan Rutherford's "Dirty Beaver". I'm a huge fan of the monoboom designs. In addition to the leaks the Norvel units are plagued with, the pickup isn't exactly in the correct position for sustained inverted flight. They also place the engine far too forward. If your current plane isn't adjusted for this it's incredibly nose heavy.

Interesting the two extended Norvel tanks have little "clunks" for inverted performance hard to see in the photos... but I wouldn't use them anyway..Ken Cook wrote:In addition to the leaks the Norvel units are plagued with, the pickup isn't exactly in the correct position for sustained inverted flight. If somebody's interested in these tanks... maybe we could arrange a trade? for say a Kirn-Kraft needle assy.?

Re: Norvel Tee Dee.049 Mount/tanks
I have not tried the extended Norvel tank, but the regular one was vibrating quite a bit on my little reed speed plane that I used in a contest here. I don't think the Norvel vibrates as much but the TD has a pretty heavy piston and it shakes with high revs. A bigger balanced prop would likely be fine. I really could not get a setting, as it was foaming up so much. It did fit the Bee bolt pattern though which was nice. I had to saw off the firewall and move it back for balance, and redo the fiberglass and repaint the nose to try that. Always wanted to see the speed difference between the Bees, TD and Norvels on the same plane and prop. You may find a taker for the KK needle trade against a postage stamp backplate here, but I doubt there are many guys with a remote KK needle valve to trade.

Re: Norvel Tee Dee.049 Mount/tanks
I was gifted a Norvel .049 C/L engine several years ago.. which has a similar tank. I haven't tried running the engine yet.. so I can't speak for the tanks' integrity.
The below photo is likely what Ken Cook was referring to.. regarding a "fixed" fuel-pickup tube within the tank. There's no "clunk" in this tank...
then again.... this style tank surely had a "specific purpose"..

Re: Norvel Tee Dee.049 Mount/tanks
yeah the longer one has a back part and a tiny clunk.. pictured on left and the short one has just a rather poorly placed brass tube pickup...roddie wrote:

I have a lot of Norvel accessories and engines. I never knew the clunk was available. I suppose they discovered the above mentioned problem with the fixed pipe version.
