Now that is a real Butcher Bird!
Only thing worth bidding for is the Babe Bee with cast tank back and to a lesser degree, the Top Flite white nylon prop.

Nope never Is it for sale on ebay? Surely someone cannot be trying to sell that. I must be misunderstanding. Its a joke. yes?
Ok, so its the motor and mount thats actually what someone might want from it. Unfortunately for me they dont ship to Australia.

Hi Bob, if you want to build that one, then build plenty of these because no fuelproofing any. Fly and throw cardboard wing and tail, save aluminum mount with engine module only
There is plenty of surface for Cox stickers

You won't want to pass this it up. https://www.ebay.com/itm/125749542948 (for ease of access).
There's more value adds, 4 genuine nylon insert lock nuts on the 2-56 bolts, a genuine Top Flite nylon bellcrank and control horn. Underneath the masking tape hinge, the elevator is actually hinge pinned to the aluminum fuselage plate.

"the elevator is actually hinge pinned to the aluminum fuselage plate"
That's a worry. I'm not a tin bender. Can you bend aluminum over like that without it cracking? Guess so, as he did it. Heat?

I'd have to pull out one of my old material sciences textbooks to be sure. It may have been mentioned in Keith Laumer's designing and building model airplanes book, too. Aluminum has an interesting property, that one can heat it to soften it enough (not melt) and install bends without it breaking. Let it cool. Over time, I forget what, may be a couple weeks, the metal sort of heals itself, returns to its original strength. Something about heating reduces the crystalline structure. Over time, the crystals return.rsv1cox wrote: "the elevator is actually hinge pinned to the aluminum fuselage plate" That's a worry. I'm not a tin bender. OTOH, I've done heating music wire until it is cherry red. Let it air cool. Loses its tempering. Now you can easily bend it. Then heat it again cherry red, and quench it in a cold liquid (water, oil, etc. - not up on technique). There's a trick to the timing, that I could never get right. Usually, it would instead of regaining its spring, became very brittle and snapped. But, as a young man still in high school, gave it the good "college try".
But, I am certainly not a blacksmith. I suppose some modellers learned how to do so well, that it became 2nd nature. Not me. I need the bending jigs to bend anything larger than 3/32" dia. wire. Got one of those legacy K&S benders somewhere in my modelling tool stash.

Hi All,
I would pay $5 CDN for a newish Tornado nylon 5-3 prop.
Got enough BabyBee .049 stuff.
At $40, imagine boxing it up,
And,
It not being damaged when it gets there.
How could you tell?
Respect,
Dave

The funiest line is

You were not too far off with bending your piano wire. Just after heating and quenching you need to temper the steel so it does not stay brittle. Polish the black carbon off and reheat it to a straw colour but not too far into blue and it will be about where it started. An oven set at around 200 C is good if you can do it. I seldom use heat for landing gear or pushrods unless they are just too brittle and crack, or I need to thread the ends. Bending aluminum needs a radius if using 6061 T^ because it can crack. We used 3031 T3? (I forget, I retired 14 years ago, maybe 3032) for cabinets and parts that were bent. The T6 or T3 is the hardness IIRC. I believe the harder stuff is age hardened as you mentioned. It is likely easy to look up.GallopingGhostler wrote:I'd have to pull out one of my old material sciences textbooks to be sure. Re: well alrighty then will it fly ? eBay !
Thanks guys,
Laying flat around here someplace I have that aluminum sheet, finding it will be a problem. I have a habit of sticking things in boxes, especialy if flat and laying things on top without labeling contents. Hope that I can find it.

- 1 Vinyl Records
My guess is that it was the earlier model Babe Bee was his motivation. Perhaps he negotiated shipping to a lower cost, by wanting engine only?
