Nothing interesting.
Re: OPERATION TUNGSTEN (TOP SECRET)
Well guys,
I didn't take his posts as spam. Annoying? Yes, kinda lame too. I think he was genuine though. I could be wrong. I have been before.
I wish he would have taken the advice given and posted an intro.
His final post was reactive to the posts beforehand. Had he read the forum rules he may have done things differently.

Huh.... What happened here. It really just sounded like he was going to post about a model.

Busy... I only caught his first post, didn't see anything else that he typed.

That's why I have moderators. Speaking of the mods, where are they?SuperDave wrote:Jacob:

No, I wouldn't call it Spam, just a little silly, I assume him to be about 12 and wanting to play soldiers (or Fighter Pilots)
If he had stuck to just his first post in that format, then changed to sensible posting I would have thought it quite clever, but he obviously couldn't leave it alone, and his reaction to our (reasonable) comments confirmed his lack of maturity.
I would think that we are not the first forum where he has annoyed people enough to be asked politely to go away, and he is probably starting on another one now!

I come here for the pure enjoyment of discussing things that I enjoy with like-minded people.
Yes, my feelings exactly, attention seeker, harmless but annoying.

I agree Wilf, very silly and true the comments were not that harsh. I was just saying his reaction was based off of those posts. Some folks are thin skinned.......

Re: OPERATION TUNGSTEN (TOP SECRET)
No. not a spammer. but usually just posting the one word (spammer) like I did usually will elicit a response,,it did not. So I seen a 12 year old kid, or a buddy of a buddy (wink, wink), and he flew in here and passed right out the door. Once they kept on with the code posts, I just watched. Not a insult to any of the reply posts at all I thought.
I didn't spot any mods online, and I checked a few times as he did his thing waiting for someone to set him straight or at least get him to post like an adult or introduce or something other than Bletchley park WWII code talk.

In the absense of moderators and admin, I believe forum members handled the intruder properly.
Anyone have a comment? (I won't be offended if you disagree) Consider this a "learning moment".

Ok, Dave you asked for it!
I don't think the guy was a troll. I think he was a misguided fellow that had an unusual idea about how to post topics.
I agree they were hard to read and they were annoying. I don't know if I would have told him to snap out of it the way it was done as it was a tad rough especially for someone new who doesn't know the folks on the forums personalities.
However he could have just fell in line and changed his methods. Instead, he chose the easy way out.
When I first posted on this forum I thought you were kinda scary Dave but, I didn't let that put me off and I soon found out you are a straight to the point kind of guy. Once I knew that I was able to understand you more clearly.
This guy had no clue who we are so a more gentle approach may have worked better.
Just a thought.......
Please understand I am not attacking you or anyone else here for that matter. And if push came to shove I would back up anyone here in a second. You all are great and helpful bunch of guys. I just think a more relaxed approach might work better at getting new folks to fall in line. Sounds kinda funny seeing as i'm military and it doesn't work that way in my world.
You catch more flies with honey so the saying goes.

Re: OPERATION TUNGSTEN (TOP SECRET)
Of course a couple of us posted replies refering to his first post, I personally sent him a welcome, and a jokey comment about the weather at his location, which he posted as "Scapa Flow"
There was no response to any of our postings, just another of his weird posts. I think he was expecting everyone to pass awed comments on his "Clever" posts, and when no-one did he kept putting the same thing up, as I said earlier, Attention Seeker "Look how clever I am!"

Ron:
Conversely I don't believe it behoves the forum to patronize that type of person seeking attention. Should not a "newb" come here seeking straight-forward input rather than "clowning around" with military cryptology?
OPERATION TUNGSTUN? Come on. It had me digging for historial facts because I knew it was an actual WWII event. Why wouldn't have been better if he asked a "straight up" question from the start?
As to your initial impression of me, the "Super" may have put you off but I have several times explained how "SuperDave" originated. To me, I have in no way been offensive in anything I have posted. (Again, disagreed if you wish. I can take the "heat".)

I hope I'm not violating moderator rules by discussing that. I don't want a whippin'.
