The World-Wide Ringmaster Fly-a-Thon---Oct. 1st & 2nd
This is a somewhat late notice that the World-Wide Ringmaster Fly-a-Thon is bearing down on us!
It's scheduled for the 1st and 2nd of October, with a rain date of the following weekend---the 8th & 9th.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The 15th Annual International Ringmaster Fly-a-Thon is rolling (turning?) around to us again...this coming October 1st & 2nd, and will be the 7th for the Breezy Hill Club.
This is a VERY grassroots celebration of Matt Kania's 1950's control line plane, the Ringmaster. The plane has a BUNCH of variants, and all are eligible for the Fly-a-Thon.
The basic idea is that, on two designated days, Ringmaster pilots all around the world will launch their planes, and record the number of flights they make. To qualify, the plane must complete at least 5 laps from launch to landing.
The flights are tabulated and results sent our friend John Cralley, who will enter them in the Ringmaster Log Book.
There will be training planes and little Ringmasters for anyone interested in trying their hand at Control Line Flying.
Things usually start happening around 10am, and go 'till we've had enough...or...it gets dark...but even darkness doesn't always stop us!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cu6sfcffeY
Breezy Hill is an AMA sanctioned club, and is located on Illinois Rt.3, just north of Chester, Illinois.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Breezy Hill Flyers always have a major hoot with this event...as evidenced by this post from our Facebook Page:
------------------------------------------------------------------
"OK...if THIS photo doesn't inspire you to come out for the 2022 World-Wide Ringmaster Fly-a-Thon, well, I just don't know.
Sure, the image of a Control Line Pilot is a Tough, Macho, somewhat Savage Dude, but we can have a more "refined" side too...even with an “Appreciation of the Arts”.
Here, Flyer Billy demonstrates all the grace and poetry of the proper, and artistic, launch of a Ringmaster during last year's Fly-a-Thon":
---------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have a Ringmaster, but are hesitant to post to another site, you could message me, or post here, and I'll forward your entry to John.
I'll just need:
Pilot or Pilots' Name(s)
You Location (City, State)
Type of Ringmaster(s) Flown
Total Number of Flights for Each
"Let's Turn'm Up!!"

Got out my 60+ year old Baby Ringmaster, rebuilt many times, and the clone I built for the event a couple of years ago which still has the dent in the right wing when I flew it into a tree. Trying to fly on 35' lines when you only have 34 feet of space ................

Beautiful Ringers, Bob!!!
Your comment about having "34 feet of space" takes me back to Rusty's early reports about flying in the church yard near his house!
I'd have to search to confirm specifics, but believe he and his Goldberg "Jumping Bean" had several "tree incidents" there!
P.S. The "dent" just adds character!!!!!

My earliest memories of Rusty was when I first logged on here in 2014 were of him flying in that schoolyard. I thought, how neat is that! Such a loss for the forum.

I guess a number of us were fan boys (think I still am one).
@Kim, that is the first time I've seen the Ringmaster Flash. Before, saw the .15 sized Ringmaster Flash Jr., but not its bigger cousin. Love the full fuselage look. Is that a Goldberg Junior Falcon canopy on top the fuselage?

Re: The World-Wide Ringmaster Fly-a-Thon---Oct. 1st & 2nd
Sterling never made a Flash .40. Pat King did a rendition of the .40 size Flash. I happen to have one and it didn't come with a canopy which may explain the odd one. I do have the correct canopy. For as long as I can remember back it never rained on Ring day here. Rain scheduled for both today and tomorrow. My flying partner just re did his Ring with a older 4 stroke which seems to be doing real well and one of the other guys had a Wankel on his which was heavy but it sure sounded cool.

This was gifted to Flyer Billy at an event at Buder Park a couple years ago (his shop/storage is about as full as mine), and it's sort of "on-loan" to me.
Yeah, I've got old magazine ads showing the Jr. Flash, but never saw a large version.
The Flash's builder obviously had a surging imagination...as evidenced by it's artistic scheme, and it's Goldberg canopy---secured with straight pins for "rivets"!

Re: The World-Wide Ringmaster Fly-a-Thon---Oct. 1st & 2nd
Had us some great fun...I'm exhausted and happy...and will crunch the video and photos and add up the flights tomorrow.
Great times with great people.
Ole Blue, the Super Ringmaster, reprised its night time flight from last year...this time with fancy flashing strobes.
Leo gets strobed while restraining Ole Blue:
Into the Night:
More to follow.

Re: The World-Wide Ringmaster Fly-a-Thon---Oct. 1st & 2nd
Time for me to build myself a Baby Ringmaster with a 049 TD up front. Found plans on outerzone. Lots of people fly the planes, and they certainly look like they would fly well! look like a very worthwhile build and is probably a very good design for me to build and fly and actually learn to fly somewhat better, by maybe flying a plane that has some real pedigree. And Ive got all the balsa and Solarfilm needed to build it, so no excuses. There might be something in these planes with built up wings.
