Neat item from WillyNillies
I was just perusing WillyNillies website to look for anything new. On the Accessories page there is a hinge tool for making fishing line hinges. Not that I have ever used fishing line for a hinge, but the tool would be a great modern version of the Goldberg hinge tool I've used for decades. This would work the same if you just push the needle in far enough that it would score a line on the balsa hingeline as you draw it down the balsa.
I'll have to order one next time a make a purchase from WillyNillies. I still have a couple of the Goldberg tools, but it doen't hurt to have an alternate on hand.

That really looks neat. There is mention of a 3d file to download, but unfortunately I cannot find it.

I find his Cox engine electric motor mounts fascinating, very good job of mimicking these for the smaller out-runner motors. In flight it is hard to tell except for the electric whine, that it is not a Castor spewing Cox engine powering it.

I checked the instructions. This sure looks like a neat way to hinge little surfaces. The instructions indicated the 3d print files were in their site...I never found them. Maybe they got removed in order to prevent competition.
Had I found the file, I would work on figuring out my kid's 3d printer. If anyone here has it finds it, I'd love a copy. This way of hinging looks a lot cleaner than my "Frankenstein sewn hinges."

Same here. I looked all over the site for it, as well as the FB group with no luck. I even sent a message to them through the website, but have not heard back yet either, and that was shortly after I posted above. But if I do find it ever, I will gladly share it with you.

FWIW I used to use sewn hinges for my Slow Combat planes in the 80’s. Using fishing line not the monofilament version. Just drill a series of 1/16” holes and tie a knot in one end of maybe a foot of line and make a needle point at the other with thin CA then do a figure 8 pattern. Pull it tight and wick thin CA in the holes. Works flawlessly and is cheap and you can cut it apart with a razor for repairs. Like a variation on cloth hinges without all the dope.
