BTW, my first airplane ride in one of these in 1947. I have a picture of a VERY excited ten year-old sitting in the front seat wearing a leather flying helment.
The plane was owned and flown by one of my Dad's clients as a birthday present. We took off and landed at local airport that is now a shopping center.
Time marches ever onward but the memories go with it.
Difficult to start up on your own, but even when he gets some help I don't think it's made easier by both of them being scared to death of the prop! (Not that I blame them!)

I stuck 3 tanks through the new TD topend and wound her up.
Peaked at 19830 with 2 gaskets and no throttle ring.
Gonna slow/richen it for a couple more tanks and if it'll hold 18.5 on a regular basis I'll be happy.
My ears are actually ringiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing.
Using our modified (TD) cylinders it has been our experience that this adds 2,000 - 3,000 RPM to a Surestart engine. Or Babe Bee, etc.

I wear shooting "muffs" when running engines. Works for me!

It's one of your new bad boys Bernie.
It certainly does what 'it says on the tin'.
Look back through the tread lads to see
'before' with a Medallion top end. I will
Put the standard sure start on at some
Point for a back to back comparison.

Re: Sure Start
Ok Firsta vaul I'm gonna get me some muffs this week, cos genuinely my ears still hurt from yesterday.
Second, in the UK the weather has been Pants all weekend. I took O/T out yesterday in 10 mph gusting 21 and
it was too much. Today it rained from 04.00 to...it's still raining at 21.15.
Although the sureteedeestarty was spining at a constant 20k with Bernie's flurescent 5x3 up front it was more of a fight
than a flight.
And on the 03rd flight, finals I managed to come up short in the long grass.
I guess what I saying is small (at least largeish model with small engine) don't really make a happy combination unless
the weather is good.
I will try different prop combo's in the future but I think it will be in slightly stiller air.
On a plus point into wind the O/T will loop from the flat very nicely.
