I liked the Monkees also. I think they got a raw deal from the industry, press and some fans. I didn't watch the TV show in the mid 60s but happened to catch a rerun a few years ago. I was laughing out loud. It was clever and quite funny.

I remember girls on my school bus, urgently passing around a "Petition" from Tiger Beat or some such magazine to keep the Monkees on the air.
This was serious stuff in '67.
Always liked these guys.

Re: Monkees Michael Nesmith
Very sad news,
had the chance to watch the Monkees on TV at a friends house saturday afternoons.
To my memories there has been a Monkees Hollywood Movie launched few years ago.
R.I.P Michael Nesmith ,
this one is from a Monkees Fan.

When I heard the news two days ago...As I read about Michael Nesmith passing, the song I'm a Believer instantly started playing in my head, one of very few songs that I know all the lyrics.

RE: Monkees Michael Nesmith
Labor Day weekend 1967, A bunch of us in our USAF tech school in Rantoul, IL went to the NHRA U.S. Nationals Drag Race in Indianaoplis. The Monkees were a featured attraction between rounds of competition and they drove the Monkee Mobile up and down the track with all four in it at a safe speed of course.
I went by where they were signing autographs but the line was so long that I went back to watching the racing.
I told my grandkids about this once and they thought I was joking. Yea right !!

Re: Monkees Michael Nesmith
The Monkees aside, I always had the utmost respect for Mike Nesmith for his
song writing. "Different Drum" by The Stone Poneys(Linda Ronstadt) always comes to mind.
Here's a link to his songs and the people who recorded them.
