Root canal/crown
2 yrs ago I cracked one of my teeth. I ignored it because it didn’t bother me as long as I didn’t chew on it. Well it finally degraded enough to where the root got infected, wicked pain. Try getting into the dentist a week before thanksgiving…. Got lucky or unlucky this morning and got a right away appt. Seeing as I have never had a cavity or any dental work other than a cleaning in 47 years I didn’t know what to expect. So, yeah holy crap, new meaning of pain! Now I understand why some people are afraid of the dentist…

I also love my dentist, cardiologist, pulmonologist, dermatologist, urologist, acupuncturist, gastroenterologist,
general practitioner and oncologist(did I leave anyone out?).
I also lapsed with the dental thing, and I dread it, but that's life.

Re: Root canal/crown
Glad you got it fixed, but sorry about your pain. I know the feeling, as I have had a bad life growing up with my teeth due to being very sick most of my early life, then all the meds and such did have effects on my body and teeth. I personally have a tooth similar to yours that they want to do a possible root canal on. So I simply told them that if the filling did not work, only one needle and pull the darn thing. Root canal avoidance!

Right back atcha buddy, I guess the moral here is don’t wait to get things fixed. Probably could have gotten away with a crown if I had it looked at right away.

Sorry to hear that Chauncey, I can see why you want to avoid it! I certainly hope your health is better as an adult.

Re: Root canal/crown
One of my fillings fell out during one of my "Government Sponsored Trios Abroad." I got to the dentist two days later. He asked me what I was allergic to to. I responded with the Red Tag items and paused. He looks at me and asks "is that all?"
"Nope," I replied...Pain!"
This was in a rocky, mountainous terrain. The dentist was working on me in the vet tent...as in vetinary tent. The needle he jabbed me with could have choked a horse. I never knew how paralyzing absolute numbness to one side of my head could be. I think the afflicted eye was too numb to look, work right. I had no control of my tongue for six hours. Oh, and I never felt a thing!

I had my time with dentists too, but at the age of 63, luckily I have 31 out of 32 still in place..just try to whistle your favorite song after you are done and you are driving home with the numbness still paralyzing half of you face....you will laugh your head off....you will feel like you could kiss the person sitting on your side, without turning your head, the mouth moves so astray.

Re: Root canal/crown
Thanks feels better today. Still pressure sensitive. Oral care has always been a big thing for me. I brush and floss often. That’s probably why I got by for two yrs after breaking the tooth before it got infected. I can still boast about never having a cavity, but not about having had no dental work.
I just couldn’t believe the pain. Not comfy and I feel for you guys that have had to do it more than once.

Re: Root canal/crown
My son was a floride baby, born when the stuff was just coming in. He has a single cavity, dentist tells him that his teeth are as hard as a rock.
I wasn't, and have many fillings. Years ago I had a five alarm toothache about five in the afternoon. Many calls later I fund a dentist in a neighboring town that would take me. About nine that night I was sitting in the dental chair. Root canal or pull it? Root canal! Wow, not fun. Went back the next day to have the packing removed and the tooth filled. Sorry pardner, the tooth cracked and I will have to pull it.
Fast forward to last year. Same scenario. Dentist - root canal or pull it? PULL IT!

OWCH...OWCHI don't think there is anything worse than cracked/infected teeth. I have not given birth, so there is that, but tooth pain is the worst I have ever had. Headaches, sinus infections swollen jaw all due to wisdom teeth. Had them all four pulled out at one sitting. Never again.

Re: Root canal/crown
this month is "movember" - when guys let their beards grow, raise money for an organizaton that promotes men's health, and generally try to convince us guys to go to the doctor when things hurt - before it gets too bad.
I've been doing the fundraising stuff on facebook, and won't bore you lads with that part here. but I will say:
if it hurts, go -- go now... before it gets worse.
See your doc regularly.
2002? one of my testicles hurt... i avoided the doc, pretended it was okay, and finally a year later, went through surgery, chemo, etc.. that i would NOT have had to do --- if I'd have just gone earlier.
I really cracked up at BobD's comment about seeing all the different doctors. BUT! its worthwhile if it keeps us on this side of the lawn... one more day.
I have this completely unreasonable goal of seeing one MORE pair of beautiful female breasts before I die. So I will keep on with the doc, the excercise, drinking water..
Hope your teeth get better - as Doc Holliday was often quoted "they have to last your lifetime, take care of em"

Re: Root canal/crown
So that’s where the saying came from…. Rest assured I normally am vigilant, I am also a guy so, pain gets pushed aside.
Testicular cancer is no joke and I am sorry you had to go through that. Hopefully it’s something you can beat. Rest assured that there are plenty of lovely women out there and someone for you. Keep an open mind and a loving heart. And don’t tell them you just want to see their chest. Also marriage would be a good idea. You will get to see the two ladies nearly every day. Good luck.
Ron

2003 - done with all that --- had a kid after. he's a troublemaker, so thats good.
My doc says I can only get testicular cancer one more time. so thats a plus.
I still have goals - my amicable ex-wife says good luck on those..
I hope your teeth have been attended to.
And that all of us keep ourselves healthy for another great year of flying model airplanes..
