Re: The resurrection of the frankenplane
I don't know why but,
I'm a junkie for rebuild threads.
Some of the best flying planes in my shop, came from a garbage can at the flying field.
I also like the guys that do Nitro/Electric swaps.

Re: The resurrection of the frankenplane
After finding the other cylinder I was able to make some comparison and this one is larger With larger windows in the cylinder Different angles to direct the air more efficiently This is what gives all its character to this monster of revolution

Re: The resurrection of the frankenplane
I just have to install the carburetor Which is installed on other OS .32 boat engine
I believe it will be able to function for a few more flights before having to re-inspect it Some parts are very good, other less I will adjust it at the next dismantling by this time I will have to find other engine parts

Just keep at it David. It's a worthy project and I really like that plane.

Re: The resurrection of the frankenplane
Today I did a little cleaning in the storage room. I watched the repairs to be made On the plane the inner reinforcement of the wing Seems way too small to me . I am going to modify them I wonder how maybe i have an aluminum tube lying around Or wood bigger stick longer I will reinforce the landing gear
I made a lot of room
But I still have to place several things in the new glass cabinet that my aunt gave me

Re: The resurrection of the frankenplane
I am making progress I have strengthened Fixing the landing gear It was all twisted
I think it's the wings that will be more complex to repair the more I have to lengthen the stick insideThe wing curves with the excess weight du To speed Abrupt looping maneuver I believe I should use an unmodified engine I believe it would be safer for the plane

Re: The resurrection of the frankenplane
I found bigger wheel This should help For better rolling on grass
I also found wheel pants Who could be installed I also found two enya .35 motor heads It is indeed a cylinder of an Os engine Install on Frankenstein engine it has the os head the piston too So he is half OS half enya. its a enya crankchaft crankcase wit os cylinder piston conecting rod But with the piston pin of the enya I have to find a piston pin with two teflon tips Because the copper end caps Leave a mark in the cylinder I wonder if it's normal that she is free to move sideways inside piston No clip nothing to hold it in place I was able to take it out by tilting it sideways
The comparison of the two enya head one with a high compression rate. I think I will use it on one of the engines that rsv1cox (Bob) send me Who should arrive soon I can't wait to receive them

Re: The resurrection of the frankenplane
I am currently working on two the .15 the .35 which had a carburetor The .35 needs a little love Resurfacing the tapered shoulder on the crank for its drive plate Polishing of bearings surfaces The motor head is a medium A little better than the base one
You can almost see the small damage on the conical part of the crankchaft On the .15 I have to drill One hole and make a channel on the other side To instal a little os pipe I believe I have another carburetor which could improve the air fuel mixture Unlock him some more turn

Re: The resurrection of the frankenplane
This engine has extreme good compression now Impossible to turn by hand without a propeller Without the glow plug I can turn very well I feel the compression of the crankcase despite a small leak but I will all repair it is not a big thing just a crack in gasket i like To use permatex motoseal After having cleaned the crankcase well I apply a thin layer and then install the old gasket in places I close with the other side wit oil so that the gasket does not stick to the other parts just its casse After an evening to dry tight This morning I equalize the surfaces well, there were still small leaks now that it is equal I will put a thin layer and then close with the oil on the other side So that it is not impossible to dismantle again without braking the gasket It should seal well
The beautiful little .15 is ready for use This little engine is already very promising I have a lot of fun modifying this little beast

Re: The resurrection of the frankenplane
I decided to use the motor that I cleaned and that I installed a pits silencer It adds weight at the front but better centered Before the pipe came out on the side Unbalancing the plane added too much weight on the same side plus look bad With the big pipe sticking out on the side I have another nose but new I will want to wait after the first flight I believe I can modify the one that is installed Without adding too much weight
I think I can fix this big crack
For now the nose is centered with a piece of cardboard While waiting to solidify it Much remains to be done before i have a viable plane to fly Again

Re: The resurrection of the frankenplane
I did not test the engine but I know it is very good For now I am preparing a fuel tank I have some problem with the piping I wonder if I connect two air inlet to the silencers One tube points to the top of the tank, the other to the bottom But the two connected in one Y Connector pressured out To tank
But I wonder if one direct line wouldn't be better ?? Even if it is submerged when the plane is inverted My only goal is to have a constant flow of fuel Who follows the engine speed Because it is a 3d plane it is an important point not to be neglected I really need the engine power to land

Re: The resurrection of the frankenplane
I have modified the needle valve I just wanted to make a notch for a flat screwdriver Then I said to myself that it would be better to have a stick with L clevis lever More convenient in this way To adjust the mix No tool needed I drilled a hole for the exhaust gases For one of the silencer outputs For the other exit a tube joins the exit of the cowl
It's not perfectly straight but should be correct Good for test flight wit this new engine setup
