Prop Rod Parts
Hi, My name is Jim and I'm new to the group. Hope I'm in the right spot. I'm glad I found this site as it looks like lots of good info and learning tools are here. I just finished freeing up the O-Forty-Five motor in a TD Special. The whole car was a mess but it cleaned up and polished great. I'll post pics of the car and engine at another time but what I'd like to know is where I can find a black three blade prop, red rubber spinner, and starter spring for my Prop Rod? At one time I thought there was a seller on eBay who sold these parts but I can't find him now. I'd post in the Wanted section but need to get a few other posts under my belt first I guess. Any help, suggestions, or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Prop Rod Parts
to the forum!
Yeah, we decided to tighten up some requirements to post in the For Sale/Wanted section just to add some certainty that those buying and selling are legit. It shouldn't take you long though.
Bernie at Cox International has 3 blade black pusher props.
https://coxengines.ca/propellers/cox--049-propeller-left-hand-pusher-5-x-3-5.html
Which you would use a normal spring starter like this for.
https://coxengines.ca/front-end/cox--049-snap-starter-spring-no-drag.html
The small red rubber spinners come up from time to time.
Matt at Ex Model Engines has a NOS one here:
http://www.exmodelengines.com/product.php?productid=18003&cat=266&page=2
Otherwise Cox International has some black ones that you could paint red (if only for display purposes, not sure how well the paint would hold up on the rubber if used).
https://coxengines.ca/spinners-hubs/cox--049-rubber-spinner-hub-black.html
Or your can get a larger red one.
https://coxengines.ca/spinners-hubs/cox-049-engine-hub-red-rubber-spinner.html
For the spring starter, if you have your engine inverted (cylinder mounted down), a 6 o-clock spring starter might look better on it. I see Matt has one of those in stock. http://www.exmodelengines.com/product.php?productid=18001&cat=266&page=1

Re: Prop Rod Parts
Thanks Jacob! I really appreciate the help and parts source suggestions. I'll check them out. It may take me a while to navigate this site and get used to using it but I'm quick at learning though so shouldn't take me too long. I guess I should put more info on my profile page.
Can you recommend a book that describes how to ID small gas motors and how they work? I did buy Spindizzies and Vintage Miniature Race Cars, and although nice to look at and good for car ID they don't talk much about the motors. Now that I'm retired my interest in gas powered cars and planes have really taken off. Pun intended. Thanks again! Jim

Book? Did you ask for a book? I like books, but now with the invention of the internet
(thanks Al Gore) you have access to a whole worldwide web of information!!
Save the Trees....read on the internet..
First check out the Boatload , and LifeBoats thanks Levent, of information available in “Info” files on the left hand column of this page.
Or just type: Model Engine Collectors in your search engine
Here is some:
http://www.modelenginecollectors.org/
Or
https://www.adriansmodelaeroengines.com/catalog/main.php?cat_id=121
Or
http://sceptreflight.com/
Or any of these

If you like something to hold in your hands and read this is excellent. Available on ebay, Amazon and other places. My copy is dog-eared.

Wow! Model engine gold mine. Thanks so much guys. My wife may not thank you though. I'll have my face buried in all this info for quite a while!

just remind her how much less expensive Cox motors are, and how much trouble they keep you out of... compared to a new corvette and a young blonde girlfriend
toss in some flowers and a compliment every so often, and you are golden...

I have a couple full size old Fords right now that take up a fair amount of time. I "escape" to the garage on a regular basis. Now the workbench will be full of miniature old cars with motors. I think I'm going to need more than flowers and a kind word! Actually, my wife is very understanding. Now if I could get her to help me clean these parts!
