Cox Engine of The Month
Question for those who have used the new Cox glowplug adapters

Question for those who have used the new Cox glowplug adapters
With the old standard head on any Bee, I use two copper washers with 25% nitro. How many shims have you had to add to compensate for the increased compression of the new adapter?

Rusty,
I have only had experience with Bernie's Texaco head and I had to add 4 gaskets until it ran well.
Your best bet would be to add gaskets until you achieve best rpm then keep adding until RPM drops. Then go back one or two until you get peak RPM again and that will be the best # of gaskets for that engine/fuel.
All engines will be different depending on wear.

I had to use 5 gaskets with the 5 fin and 2 with a Norvel head.

Oh yeah, I forgot y'all can't read my mind.nitroairplane wrote:What adapter Rusty?

I got a red adapter and a silver adapter like this:

And this is the glowplug:

It's a great design, I wish we could get plugs with the regular shaped combustion chamber. These look like they might have the same combustion chamber as a Tee Dee head.

Re: Question for those who have used the new Cox glowplug adapters
I believe it takes about 4-5 gaskets on those to get something that is close to the original heads. As said earlier you need to test each individual engine on the fuel and prop you are after.

I put it on my Norvel big mig .061 and I was happy with 5 gaskets.
Same with cox.

I tested these drop in plugs from CI in my Black Widow. I use one gasket with the standard Cox plug. Used one, two and three gaskets
with the drop in plug and picked up about 1K +or - with two gaskets. 25% nitro 5-3 prop.

I posted a reply on your video.
I'd be real happy if my Black Widow sounded like that. That's as good as any I've ever seen. Good work.
You say venturi mods... you opened the intake holes in the backplate and tank tube larger than the BW specs?

Sounds like I'll start with 4. Thanks for the replies.

I think Bernie said start with 3 and increase or decrease to your liking.

I think I heard you running that engine all the way over in Naples. That thing sounds awesome!
