SEMO R/C Flyer's Chili Fun Fly "Cold, Windy Sunday"!

SEMO R/C Flyer's Chili Fun Fly "Cold, Windy Sunday"!
Had a Big Time with the SEMO R/C Flyers' Fun Fly at their field just north of Sikeston, Missouri.
Due to severe laziness, I didn't fly my planes, but instead, sent the Mavic drone out snooping around when the air wasn't choked-full of hovering airplanes.
Allen Bagg put in a bunch of control line flights in a make-shift circle on the south end of the field, somewhat uncomfortably close to some heavy power lines.
We even had an Erickson Air-Crane fly by on it's way to some job somewhere, along with a few errant boomerangs to dodge.
Gonna go back tomorrow and do my best to sling some castor.

Looks like a nice day for some fun. I was cutting firewood today.
No pics of the chili?? If it had any amount of beans might want to keep from open flames for a bit.

Yeah, I dropped the ball on photographing the great food...but gonna fix that today, along with actually starting an engine! Allen was the only Castor Slinger on the field, and I used the warm sun to semi-nap in my lawn chair! Today, he'll get some back-up!

Yeah, it's a small club about 20 miles south of my place. The Big 3-D's are from Kennett, Missouri and are some serious flyers. This is the north end of Missouri's "Boot Heel", with a lot of flat, sandy land where tornadoes love to play!
The SEMO Flyers marked off a circle for Allen and me, but it still infringed on the R/C runway (and we "infringed" a little more when flying to get away from the high tension powerlines next to the road!). So, I kept the Shoestring and Shark fueled and ready for launch during lulls in the R/C flying. We still had a couple near-misses, but I managed not to catch anybody with my lines!

Re: SEMO R/C Flyer's Chili Fun Fly "Cold, Windy Sunday"!
The second day of the SEMO R/C Flyers' "Chili Fun Fly" was a little more raw (rawer?) than the day before.
After being too lazy to drag my gear from the van on the day before, I immediately began setting up shop when I arrived at the Flyers' field on Sunday. In a building breeze, I got the Jetco "Shark 15" stooged up, fired up, and launched on the circle the Flyer's had set up for us on the south end of the flight line. At least I could claim one flight flown.
Allen showed up, but wasn't sure about logging any flights as the cold wind was now getting reinforcement from a cloud layer blocking the sun. We lined up our planes by the fence for display, but eventually put them away to keep the breeze from turning them into tumble weeds.
The chili and beans were great, and a considerable warm-up against the cold air. Thanks to the club members for that great lunch!
I managed another flight, this time with my rough little Goldberg "Shoestring", which is a bit heavy to be launched from my kitchen mat stooge. It still managed to get airborne after a little "bounce and go" on release. I was pretty proud of the old dog for not turning into me on the upwind side of it's circles, though Allen noted the radical change in speed each time it came around into the breeze.
The 3-D guys were having a big time, seeming not too affected by the wind, and several little foamies were cruising around too.
My Sig Kadet Senior Sport flew one mission around the field, so I'd now launched 3 castor slingers, and decided I had a full day. Allen hit out for home while I loaded my gear, and we both called it a pretty good weekend.

It was an all-around good weekend. One of the main guys who keep the little club going (seems there's ALWAYS guys like this doing the lion's share of the work) was with our "Non Club" back in the 1980/90's. They weren't taking any money for the food, or even a landing fee, so I'm gonna join the club and throw some cash at them. There's obviously a lot of work done on this field to have it in such good shape.
