Cox Engine of The Month
Finally I got TeeDee 010
Finally I got TeeDee 010
Hi, Thanks to Cox International I was able to get a new engine at a very good price and my little Cox collection was expanded by a new engine.
So I have to boast, so I took some pictures of this baby. I have a dilemma whether to start it (because it's new), but I'd rather do it Maybe soon .
For now, I'm delighted with this beauty at home
I can add only three photos to the post, so the rest is here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/KGsYhas8VcrnjocJ8
Maybe soon I'll also add a movie with a firing

Given the rpm of the engine have you thought about what type of plane you
want to fly the engine with?

No. For now, colleagues from the Polish forum advise me to not to start this engine because it's new and fairly rare. And now I don't know .

Re: Finally I got TeeDee 010
Congratulations, if you don’t enjoy that engine as it was meant to be then who will? Given any thought to what will become of it in 50yrs?
It is probably hard to come by in Poland, but rest assured it’s not at all rare in the U.S.
Enjoy it!
Edit: for grins I took a peek on Ebay just to see how many were on there. I counted 17 currently listed. Seems like a lot for being rare. The prices were nuts though.

Thanks, I'm never going to sell it (like all my engines ) so the loss of value doesn't matter for me. I just don't want to reduce the number of new TDs in the world .
You're probably right, in Poland they are certainly a lot rarer than in the USA.
Thank you again and I'll be going to fire it up soon .

Re: Finally I got TeeDee 010
Congratulations on your engine!
I understand what happens to you, since we are, both you and I, far from the US and therefore being able to access or get some parts, it can be an odyssey.
I also understand when someone recommends that you not turn it on, since in some way, it is like keeping it original from the beginning, but I also agree with Ron, when he says that, if you don't, over the years someone will burn it or else, What will be of these pieces in a few years ahead ?? ...
My thought, and given the real circumstances of each one wherever you are, is, follow your own feeling, nothing more and nothing less, listen to your heart and you will know what to do with it.
The value of these pieces also depends on how complicated it is for us to be able to get it and have it in our hands.
I share here one of my models, which I converted into r / c .... I love the Cox .010!

Re: Finally I got TeeDee 010
Czarobest, TeeDee010 supplies in Hungary are nothing better than in Poland (=0) so initially I underwent the same dilemma whether to start and fly a new 010 or not.
Since then I have flown them a lot only to learn that using them is even more joy and fun than just having them, and once properly used and maintained, they are virtually undestructable. I have a few 010 flight vids with different planes posted on YouTube. This one is the latest.

Saving engines
I have a few NIB engines that I too am "saving". If you can, I would suggest as others here have to run and use your engine. If you don't it could end up in the dump. I was presented with a multi drawer cabinet full of model boating bits; small stainless screws, propellers, drive parts etc. A friend found this treasure trove in the city dump. One person's treasure becomes another person's junk.

Re: Finally I got TeeDee 010
An engine new in the box forever is pretty much useless. I don't see the point. Its like a 1970 'cuda that sits in a climate controlled garage and never hits the road! If I had that engine I'd be contemplating my next build for it. And I'm engine poor!

Re: Finally I got TeeDee 010
Wow, thanks for all answers guys! You helped me a lot and convinced me to start this engine.
Great movies, models and engines. Most of them I've already seen, but I watched them again .
Thank you very much to everyone! Beautiful words and I agree with many of your statements.
In total, most of my 30 model engines were restored by me (9 of which are in progress of restoration ) (including a couple of Coxes) and all of them were fired by me because in the end it is fun and they were created for that. All of them are on YouTube . I would like all of these engines to stay with me for a few more decades .
In that case, you can expect a video here soon

Re: Finally I got TeeDee 010
Well, as I wrote, I started the engine today.
In the beginning, the engine ran for about 2 minutes on a rich mixture. Then reached about 27 800 RPMs (20% nitro, 3 x 1.25 prop).
In the film there is also the first start of this engine .
I don't regret it at all and I'm happy to listen to this engine . It's amazing!

Re: Finally I got TeeDee 010
Great run Czarobest, especially in apparently cold weather and only 20% nitro, 27.8k is a good number. Just one note: I suggest you not turn the spring starter more than one full turn because the spring may yield. ( not my idea, the instruction sheet also advises like that.)
Looking forward to your further vids!

Green Thumbs Up - thank you for sharing your bench test vid.
Running it is more fun than seeing it on the shelf.

Thanks, this is my first motor with spring (although I already have some Coxes) and I am not used to it . I'll remember.
