***Rusty's Memorial Traveling Engines*** SIGN UP!
To honor and remember our friend and fellow modeler, Rusty Knowlton (RknRusty), Jason Birnschein (Jason_WI) has created a set of engines to pass around to all of those who wish to show their respect. The set includes a special Cox .020 engine with a custom 3D printed backplate, a Cox RR-1 .049 engine, and a 15th anniversary gold plated Fox .35 engine. This set works in the same way as the first two Traveling Engines, the engines and all the accessories inside a case will be shipped from member to member.
To ensure everyone has a chance to enjoy the engines, we will ask to limit the time each member is in possession of the engines to no more than two weeks maximum. We understand that weather plays a large role in timing.
What could be a better way to remember our friend than to make some noise and get an engine in the air?
Member Requirements:
• Must be 18 or older
• Must have been a member for at least 3 months* (If you just joined, you'll have to wait. SH members see below)
• Must have a presence on the forum* (be logged in daily or every couple days)
• Must be a Silver Member or higher* (60 posts or more)
• Must have a positive reputation
• Must have the knowledge to properly mount, run and clean the engines and accessories
• Must be able to check your mail daily and be able to repack and ship a package
• Must have the funds available for shipping with tracking and insurance
• Must have the supplies (proper fuel, 1.5v power source, glow head clip...) NO ELECTRIC STARTERS!
• Must have a camera and a way to upload the pictures to the forum
*Members who have just joined CEF who knew Rusty on Stunt Hanger: Send me a PM on Stunt Hanger with the username you signed up with here on the Cox Engine Forum. The same rules above apply to SH, you must have a presence and a minimum post count of 60 or more. This event is not affiliated or in conjunction with the management of Stunt Hanger.
What is inside the special case:
• Cox .020 Engine with a Custom 3D Printed "Rusty" Backplate
• Cox RR-1 .049 Engine
• Fox 15th Anniversary Gold Plated .35 Engine
• Two .049 Wrenches
• Two .020 Wrenches
• One Spare .020 Glow Head
• One Spare Standard .049 Glow Head
• Two Spare Thunderbolt RC Long Plugs
• One Spare Venturi Gasket and Crankcase Gasket for the RR-1
• One Spare Crankcase Gasket, Reed, and Circlip for the .020 Engine
• One Black Flexible .020 Propeller
• One Grey Competition .020 Propeller
• One Grey 5x3 Competition Propeller
• One Top Flite 9x6 Maple Propeller *For Display Only*
• Signature/Memory Journal
• 256 GB Flash Drive
What to do:
As with the previous Traveling Engines, members who receive the set are to remove the engines and accessories from the case, take a picture of the engines (running or not), mount and run any or all of the engines (or fly any or all of them), clean them thoroughly, sign the journal, upload pictures and memories to the flash drive, repackage the engines and all the accessories, and send them off to the next member. A video of the engine being ran or on a model would be great but is not required. Members are strongly encouraged to mount and run the engines. If for some reason a member can't run one or all of the engines (because something came up, the proper supplies are not available...), it would be alright if a simple unpacking is done, inspecting the engines, take picture and sign the notebook. Members are to have the engine no longer than 2 weeks to keep it moving from person to person.
How to Enter:
If you meet the requirements, you may post a reply below with your city, state or province and country. Do not post any personal information such as personal phone numbers or full addresses.
At last:
Once everyone has had their chance with the engines, the special custom "Rusty" .020 engine, along with the journal and flash drive will be presented to Rusty's family.

Re: ***Rusty's Memorial Traveling Engines*** SIGN UP!
This is truly a great homage to Rusty, whom I respected very much. Were I a US resident, I would certainly sign up. But with myself living outside the US, my enrollment would cause elongated shipping time, unpredictable customs procedures and an occasionally lost package enroute amid COVID times with impaired international shipping services.
But I will be watching the program from a distance and wish it should be a memorable tribute to Rusty
(For the same concerns I will sign off of the World's Smallest Traveling Engine program despite my recently completed Sharkface plane built to be powered by a TeeDee010.)

Balogh,
It’s ok if it takes a while, Rusty wouldn’t mind I am sure and none of us would either.
Please re-consider. How about just stay on, but go to bottom of list until all things are sorted out.

Thanks Ron
The way we see Covid here in Europe does not encourage us to expect normalcy to return soon..I agree and wait until the list fills up and then may reconsider..I would simply feel very bad to derail the program just by the general risks of int'l shipping and customs clearance importing then re- exporting the box.
(Batjack shipped me a small package from West Coast US when Covid hatched in March, that made it to my door in Budapest Hungary in some 3 months...)

Great idea for a memorial event. But I echo to Andras about customs clearance and re-exporting three engines because they can be considered as commercial products for international addresses.
I also wanted to join Traveling Engine program, but I thought about those importing and exporting problems.
But I say again that, it is very good idea for a friend like as Rusty.

Emotional Tribute!
Frankly, I believe I meet the requirements, but due to possible customs problems upon arrival in my country, I would not want to create an unwanted situation.
Rusty, wherever he is, knows how much care I put into treating models and aircraft models, of course he would treat these pieces with the utmost respect. I accompany this tribute in a spiritual way to Rusty and to all of you.
One day maybe, some things will get better around here and then maybe I'll have a chance.
Hugs for all.

I have a UKIE .35 close to flying...it would be awesome to gently fling it around a few laps with that Golden Fox .35 in Rusty's honor.
Has it been broken in?
Please do count me in.

I think it is broken in. I got the Fox 35 in a lot of engines and it had a simple carburetor JB Welded into the venturi. It was mounted and run from the castor stains that were on it. I managed to remove the carb and clean out the JB Weld. It held a needle setting when I ran the engine on the stand.

The list has been updated.
This time, we would really like to keep this set of engines moving as fast as possible. So hopefully it won't turn into a several-year event.
Jim, what is your city?

Thank you Fred for the kind encouragement. I respectfully suggest it should remain a US adventure..as long as Covid is posing threat and risk of shipment..maybe we non-US residents can jump in when all US participants have taken their turn and by then Covid will only be remembered as a curse of the past.

Yeah, I won't keep it long. Fondle it for awhile, maybe run the RR1, sign the journal and send it along. I really like the last line of your sign-up requirements Jacob.

Re: ***Rusty's Memorial Traveling Engines*** SIGN UP!
I would like to honor Rusty by participating in his traveling engines memorial. (If possible)
I'm a pretty close distance from Ron, Cribbs74, and if you could sneak me in the line-up near his turn with Rustys engines, that would be cool.
I'm in Wichita, Kansas.

I'd love to participate in this and add in a small way to Rusty's legacy. My preference would be to join in during summer time if possible so I can make some laps when the snow is off. But all good if it arrives during winter. I now have the luxury of a heated garage
