I’m building up a RR-1 from parts I have acquired over the years. I tried to run it last weekend but it wouldn’t run only off prime. Disappointing to say the least.

I broke it down and I believe I have a reverse rotation valve. The crank pin hole is to the left when the valve opening is at the top. If this is the case I’ll need to look for a standard rotation rotary valve.

I also had to drill out a golden bee backplate. Seems I have a fuel leak as it keeps dripping. I might need to use 2 venturi gaskets for a good seal. Drilling it out should work as I don’t see any difference between that and an original backplate.

So this may be a stupid question, but I'll ask anyways. If you believe you have a reverse rotation valve, does that mean that they made these engines in CW and CCW rotation? Or am I simply missing something?

I agree that is a left hand drum. Try peterparisi11 on ebay, he was selling some drums this year.

RR-1 was supplied with a normal rotation drum, but left hand was available as a spare.

Hello Jason_WI
The RR-1 is a very interesting engine can you post photos of all the parts that make that engine? I would like to see the tank ,crankshaft and how the rotary valve engages the crank. Does it have a longer crank pin? Have you timed the duration of the intake? Nice project to work on.

I think the 'left hand' valves were coated with black oxide? I'm pretty sure that's how LeRoy did it, drilled out.

Interesting!  I didn’t know there were left-hand rotors.  I wonder how it would run in reverse.

I've got a handful of the standard rotation rotors that will be available soon. Let me know if you need one Jason.

I have an RR1 engine whose crank pin is hollow and a small pin sitting in the hole drives the drum, not the crank pin direct.
