Sure does, kinda cool though. OTOH I wonder how much time and money was spent on building that better mousetrap?

Re: Sure-Start Throttle
Looks like it would idle nicely. Hence the added steerable nosewheel for taxiing.
Probably more of a wide open/idle on off switch, combining the needle and choke.
Choked and rich, to open and lean. Neat application.

There were many version of these around. Another clever one had the plate attached to the needle and would rotate both when throttling down, hence compensating for the choking action. Can't really tell from the picture but it may compensate in the other direction or not at all.
The commercial ones that are sold now use the same principle, although there is a rotating barrel, but without any needle adjustment.

I am sure it would not be too hard to add one to the commercial ones that Bernie offers.
Re: Sure-Start Throttle
My Sure-Start throttle arrangement from Bernie was a snap to install and performs well on my Dumas "Lil Swamp Buggy" 2 channel. I also installed a "B" head " conversion on the same engine to reduce the idle speed to 7K RPM.
BTW, had lots of fun running this rig on the snow recently.

Re: Sure-Start Throttle
Yes !!! Bernie's backplate throttles are great ! I run both them and the exhaust resitrictor types, and they're both good, but just feel like the dependability is greater with the backplate style.
I put a steerable tailwheel on my "Little Traveler" Minnie Mambo, and can taxi, takeoff, and land just like the big boys.

I've also had good luck with the intake throttle from Bernie when combined with the B head. Idles nicely. I'm also about to start construction of a Minnie Mambo with the same steerable tailwheel mod in mind. Great minds think alike....

Especially when they think about great airplanes !! AND I've got to correct myself...turns out that I DO have the B Conversion Head on the Little Traveler ! Hard to keep track of everything sometimes....
