Re: Was the "LIKE"button yesterday an experiment?
Yesterday 6-29-2020 was a "LIKE" button lower left of every post. First time I ever saw it was with the new Irish Member who posted photos of things he designed...I noticed the like button and used it several times on various members welcoming the new guy
today no button
just curious

My apologies! I took the "Greenies" to be the "like" button. I didn't notice the one you mentioned and thoroughly confused myself.

Yes, it was a new feature that was added by the forum host. It's independent from the green thumbs-up "like" button and doesn't count towards reputation points (as if those are important).
I'll put it back so you guys can decide what button you like better, the green thumbs-up or the new button.

I dunno...if a lot of us like a post, the bottom could get very busy.

Re: Was the "LIKE"button yesterday an experiment?
I dunno too. One, thumbs up indicatives someone but not who liked a particular post. Other is more social media like. I kind of prefer the anonymous thumbs up, good enough for me.
Personally, we did fine in forums since the days of BBS bulletin boards accessed through 300 Baud modems. Then we had perhaps a kinder gentler population who in general did not abuse posting privileges except for a few, who got their posting privileges quickly revoked.
If a person liked a post, they'd compliment or thank in a comment. We seem to live in a day where everyone expects a reward for something normally called good behaviour. We now have graduation ceremonies for kindergarten, 1st grade, 6th grade, 9th grade, and of course the traditional 12th grade.
We give away trophies for the most insignificant thing. So, I will abide by whatever decision, but to me it matters little.
So, post on, flame on, build, test, crash, debate, laugh; life is short.

I want to see a reply so chugged down by likes that we miss the point.

So, is this like a poll? I clicked my preferred "Like" symbol on Jacob's quoted post. Is that what's expected?
My preference is for the more "non-social media" approach. Best to stay anonymous I say.

If it's not broken, don't fix it.
I say keep the green thumb and dump the like thingy.

Re: Was the "LIKE"button yesterday an experiment?
Yeah, we had the red/green like/dislike bar that created confusion and keystroke errors that was not popular. The single green thumb was a big improvement.

To me it’s like having two of the exact same features , but only one counts. Seems redundant.

I'm only keeping one of them, leaving both so everyone can try it out and decide.
I'm still leaning towards the green thumbs-up. The new like button can be set to not display who liked a post, there is also a dislike button that I currently have disabled.
I haven't figured it out yet, but I should be able to go in and edit the name of the button to maybe be a "thanks" button or something different like that. Right now, I believe only the OP can "thank" a post.

I agree. Keep the green thumbs up and disable the rest.

Re: Was the "LIKE"button yesterday an experiment?
Jacob I hit the Thanks button on your post above
page cycled to the top OP
As I scrolled back down, every post but mine has a grayed out thank button.
If I click one they say already thanked

Mebbe the thanks button should be for moderators and administrators alone, as these are thankless tasks.
