A "Streamer Salute" to Rusty !!! Empty A "Streamer Salute" to Rusty !!!

Post  Kim Sat Feb 29, 2020 8:26 pm

Those of us who have been on here for a while will remember the flying reports posted by Rusty, recounting his adventures with a Tee Dee-Powered Flite Streak in a rather confined church yard.

The Tee Dee hauled it's model around at a pretty good clip, and since longer lines were not an option, Rusty attached a combat-style streamer to the Streak.  The new "drag brake" brought the plane's speed down, while the Tee Dee still packed the ponies to put the Streak through whatever maneuver Rusty wanted.  So this "accessory" is what I used to slow down the 1/2A Nobler I got from Stan at Vintage Performance Model Airplanes.

I'm limited to 35ft lines out in the front yard, and I nearly drove the little stunter into the ground a couple times in the last session.  With a 12ft streamer tied to it's tail, The Nobler is still plenty quick (for me), but slowed down enough to almost let me casually watch it go through it's loops and horizontal eight's.

So, Kudo's to Rusty..."Thanks for the Brake" !!!

Congrats Kim. You fly CL with the same enviable ease as you do RC..and that reedy is doing a fantastic job, hauling the plane into the air right after it jumps out of the stooge. I have never seen such out of stooge jump start, thanks for posting.

My introduction to Rusty way back in 2014. I remember it well.

Nice flying Kim. Stationary loops and figure 8's stem the dizzies. If the streamer was long enough, I imagine that you could cut it in a loop.

Post  Ken Cook Sun Mar 01, 2020 7:02 am

It's nice to keep Rusty in our thoughts. A couple of weeks ago, I was flying with my son. We tied streamers on our Ringmasters and were chasing each other. He goes into the wingover and I follow. He begins to wiggle up at the top of the circle to elude my prop. I was a bit faster and I was gaining on him. My concern was what he was going to do as we were headed on the downside to the ground. He was either going to pull out upright or inverted so to avoid confusion, I figured I would eat the streamer and pull a tight loop and exit out the back. Well one problem is that when your using the Fox .35 is that they're not notoriously known for being powerhouses. I hit the streamer and it sucked into my prop rather than cutting it and now the string wrapped up in the engine cutting the engine. Directly at the top of the circle, my plane now off is being dragged by his plane which now brings both of them down smashing into the ground. My plane suffered the most damage while his was just a simple CA repair.

Thank You Guys!!!!

Yeah, hoping everybody gets some flying weather soon...got the green leaves of Easter Lilies coming up on the edge of the yard, so maybe soon!

Supposed to be in the low 60's today, but bringing 30mph winds with it, so it's gonna be Sunday Dinner at the Airport, then more doping in the shop !!!!

The engine on the Nobler is the front end of "Bad Boy", featuring cool "Easter Egg Anodizing" by Mr. Mark Boesen !

I talked to Rusty Friday Night on his "At the Bench" gathering he has every Monday and Friday Night over on Stunt Hangar---Starts at 8:30  Central Time.  He was recovering from a cold that had hit him the previous week.  Maybe he'll check in here in a bit!

Ken, that combat account is so cool---sorry it traumatized your Ringmaster!  I would so love to try a little combat with my Breezy Hill buds, and still have the two Goldberg Shoestrings from "The Tub-o-Planes" I got a couple years ago...so I may be able to talk them into it.

How do you learn to fly like that without destroying everything first? I couldn't do it in the 60's ...I sure won't be able to do it now! It would be a nice break from just getting dizzy!

Man, we went through a lot of planes back in the day (which we always seemed to rapidly rebuild without CA), and somehow, I've been allowed to keep a little of that time in my flying...for which, which I'm VERY grateful!

If you fly a plane with the tank set-up for outside maneuvers, you can get a break by pulling inside and outside loops to give your balance a break.  Also, I now pretty much universally fly on Spiderwire, which is so slick, it can take wrap upon wrap WAY past where daycron flying lines start to tighten up.

My flying bud, Patrick has yet to learn outside maneuvers, and is sort of my guinea pig as I watch him wind up his lines like the rubber band on a Sleek Streek.  He has yet to crash because of wrapped lines...but has plenty of other reasons though...

Of course, the larger planes are easier to tolerate as their turn rate is slower, and there's MUCH more sky to work with.

I thoroughly enjoyed Kim's Streamer Salute video.

I used to fly like that, nothing to it!! Get into the groove: Up, Down, Up, Down, Down.... Oh shi...... WTF!! OK, well maybe I didn't fly like that.

Like most of you, I miss reading Rusty's stories. Hope he stops by soon.

I think his "Talk Show" or "Pod Cast" (I'm such a doofus on these things) or whatever will be
coming on at 8:30 CST. I'll ask him to check in here.

I have to crank up Google Chrome to make this work, but here is the site:

Hey, guys, thanks for the big shoutout!
I'm still here, and I am very thrilled that I'm still able to provide a source of inspiration for you guys, and y'all have done the same for me... many times.

I love doing the show. It has kept my head in the game all the while while I'm sidestepping my ridiculous medical distractions. I'm still hosting the Stunthangar Video Chat, every Monday and Friday night at 9:40 PM Eastern time. The link changes slightly for each show. and is posted new at the moment the show begins, and not before. In fact, a Podcast is audio only, like Radio, and a video chat(or conference) has cameras and Microphones. The link Kim posted above is probably last Friday's show.

All of the 229 reruns are all posted on  the front page of my YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/c/RustyKControl_Line, Under the heading of: Stunthangar Video Hangout - Live every Monday and Friday Night. They are in chronological order from newest to oldest. They are listed on Stunthangar too, but mine are organized by show dates.

Thanks, Kim, for plugging the show! I hope some of you will come and visit. You have to be a member of SH to get the A/V link to each nightly episode, But you can also watch and text chat live on the YouTube feed too. If you come from there, we'll tell you how to join up.

Y'all take care now, Ya Here!

Rockin' Rusty

The Stunthanger Hangout is definitely worth a listen.  I watch and text on YouTube and learn something new every time.  It's a lot like some threads here, sometimes it's straight stunt talk, a lot of the time it's all over the place.

Good stuff Rusty, thanks to you and Sparky for doing it!
