SIG champion fuel

I think they make a bunch and wait till it all sells out and then make more. As in it’s not a constant manufacturing process.

I finally resorted to mixing my own. I made up 4 gallons today. I can see why things are so expensive. Made up some 25% all castor for my ole timers. This required a whole quart of Sig castor. I also made up some 1/2A fuel in qts. That required 11.8 oz's of nitro which is a lot of money these days. Fortunately, the methanol is moderately inexpensive. My local speed shop will no longer sell nitro in it's plain form. Used the Benol and Techniplate for the 1/2A fuel. A gallon of Benol is $42 and the Tecniplate was $51 for the gallon. I certainly don't see things becoming less in the future.

I placed an order for all castor fuel Monday and it shipped already so they must have stock.

Ken have you figured the cost difference between mixing your own and purchasing ?

Eric, our club's fuel supplier moved and stated he wanted one of us to take over the fuel business. He really looked in my direction and I almost went for it. He supplies New York, PA, VA and has attended Huntersville, NC many times selling down there. I have too many irons in the fire to do that as well not too mention renting a storage facility to store it and insure it.

Last season even with the Covid situation, my son and I went through 6 gallons of VP Powermaster, 2 gallons of 35% nitro fuel, 1 gallon of all castor 10% nitro/ 29% oil, almost a full gallon of RO-Jett Synthetic fuel and various qts we had laying around which we run engines on. The case of VP fuel has 6 gallons which cost me $230, the 35% nitro fuel was $51 costing me $202 for that fuel and $40 for the 10/29. I have spent a lot of money for last years fuel. Typically, between my son and I flying contests and fun fly events, we usually burn another 6 gallons of stunt fuel.

I'm beginning to not want to pay anymore additional fees for shipping, it's getting expensive real fast. Many have stated mixing your own isn't cheaper but I haven't figured it out exactly. I purchased much of my oil from years back and I have gallons of castor. I can only imagine that it has gone up considerably because I was paying less than $20 for gallon jugs of Sig AA castor.

Thanks Ken , good you had stored some extra castor when you could , i know its going up and availability can bee a problem sometimes . I don't think i want to mix any i don't use that much , but it can go fast when you do !
